Is the vote closed? I'm not getting the option to vote even though I'm logged in.

3 houses opposite me got robbed in the last couple of weeks. Two by a Thai girl who pretended she was looking for a place to rent, then when the owners were off guard, snatched mobile phone, purse, etc... The other one was the brother of the owner who had lost money in a business venture and robbed his own sister's house, then feigned innocence.

The house behind me has been robbed twice, but not mine. I leave yard lights on all night, am home most of the time, have two dogs and a (very loud) burglar alarm that I've tested a few times to make sure everyone in the area knows I have one. On top of that I have an IP camera set up to view the most vulnerable area of the yard.

Rising crime in Hua Hin

Post by cookmanchef »

I posted this comment on another thread but worth repeating here. A local policeman in a bar by the railway told a Thai friend of mine, they have information that a BKK gang will be targeting HH in the next few months and they expect a spate of break-ins to occur.

The latest scam is removing the salt from your swimming pool SJ ! I,ve heard they use old pairs of Y-fronts on bamboo poles, dangled over your wall,Then dry them out and sell it ,just north of ratchaburi,to London borough councils for the road gritters .I,ve gone through 3 bags since the start of rainy season alone . :cuss:

Well we got totally cleaned out in September, I find it hard to talk about.

One of the highly organised gangs stole the hook that holds the backdoor open.

HHfarang has the right Idea

Blind and deafen the would be intruders whilst leaving a massive carbon footprint whose monstrous bills can be paid for by hits on a comedy "angry neighbours pay per veiw reality site " including the "mad epileptic dogs" customer loyalty package .

Are you sure those neighbours were burgled ? Or were they gone by then ?

i've being using a 8 camera box which connects via wifi to the internet and if the first option wifi connection is cut it switchs to high bandwidth mode and used the neighbours wifi.
It's set to only record motion and is handy for seeing any visitors while ones away.
i got mine for 12,000 without hard drive but recently i've seeing ones for 10,000 without harddrive not sure about quality. the cheaper ones don't have internet. any good sized old hard drive works.
Best hidden in the roof if it's well vented and easy to bring up the wires from around the various cameras inside and outside.

My gardener's family has a dairy/beef smallholding. Whenever I need manure for our compost heap he borrows my pickup and returns with as many old poolsalt bagsfull as there's space for.

Last time it was 30 bags and he mixed the first 20 into the compost heap before knocking off for the day. 10 bags remained next door on an empty plot.

In the morning, they were gone. Seems, when they run out of bullshit, they just go ahead and steal someone elses :? . My neighbour wants to put padlocks on his septic tank. I think he's afraid they'll break in by swimming up thru' the toilet.

Oh, yes, we got burgled once too. Took the glass out of a louvre window, left footprints on my desk, found my wallet on the coffee table and took 6K baht. Left the cards and everything else. The police wanted to know what was my mother's maiden name. We installed an electronic alarm system after that, we test it too, from time to time, just to remind the neighbours that we've got one. All quiet now for almost a year.

Thanks for that SJ.

Real beauty of the system for most people will be the fact that once it's set up you only use the remote control, press one button when you leave, the other one when you enter.

Also as yet, no false alarms at all!

We had a big dog but was not fair on the dog so we sent it up north, low and behold the next night the front door was broken off its hinges in a estate where we have had 10-15 break ins in the last year, strange that they knew the dog was away,as the only people with that information would be the gardeners!!!!!!!!
Another house went on holiday for a few days and his alarm was cut and the grills taken off the back windows, how did they know he was away????
