For me what I like about Huahin is
A short drive to some good quite beachs
Reasonable nightlife
Its a family friendly environment
And there isn't any gogo bars so it doesn,t attract the hard core tourest as in Pataya

Still like Hua Hin, but find I am spending less and less time there on my annual excursions, not so unhappy to leave, and more time in Bang Saphan.

Before moving to Hua Hin from Bangkok my wife and I visited Phuket several time. Mainly because it seemed I missed something. Lots of people like Phuket but Hua Hin is a much nicer place. That includes the people. I hate Phuket and like the fact that Hua Hin is layed back and you can get easly away from the tourists.
I worked/lived on Batam Island Indonesia for three years and that gave me a whole new appreciation for Hua Hin and Thai people in general.

Agree

My wife (Isaan) even says the islands are no good. 'Thais and farangs no good'

HH is the perfect balance IMO. Whatever you want is within easy striking distance otherwise it's a lazy sleepy town compared to most and the People are as friendly as you are to them

Hi there Y'all in love with Hua Hin & beyond

I've been moved to Hua Hin in late1999 by my parents to study @ the now defunct Hua Hin CAmpus of Stamford. But from that point on my love affair with Hua Hin has begun. And is till going on stronhly with me.

The thing I really like about Hua Hin
1. A place to Chill is just 2 hours aways from the buzzling Metropolis called Bangkok.
2. Hua Hin is pretty laid back Chill Out town where everything is withhin reach and youcan walk safely @ night.
3. A nice affluent mix of Thai and International Cusine for all Tastsebuds to enjoy.
4, A very nice and loooong SStretch of Beach which iyou can walk and Jog as long as you like.pus taking a bath or swim in the Sea in fron of it.
There's much more about Hua Hin it can't be described in words you have to live there yourselves (like many of our Forum mebers do. ) ri chrish the ture beauti of this so lovely Town on the Thai Riviera.

Great food & smiles from most.

Great thing about HH is the golf variety for all levels and prices. Very impressed with Palm Hill, BLK Mountain and most of the other HH courses and can't wait to try out new Banyan. The service levels is very good at almost all the courses in the area. The Mogkol range is close to centre ot town and a great deal and way to keep the swing in shape. HH is a great for golfers that enjoy variety and easy to get to with very little hassle. Hope it can continue to provide both locals and tourists with choices and good service.

First came in '92 - my work brought me here.
Fell in love with the place instantly, and can identify with all the positive stuff stated on this thread - although there is no such place that is 100% perfect - Hua Hin gets close to it for me.

When Mrs.T & I came back to LOS in Jan 2000, we had a choice, where to live - itwas either BKK, Chanterburi, Korat or Hua Hin.

Much to my delight Mrs. T preferred Hua Hin, as did I.

The only thing wrong with it was that there was no fishing park. We decided to put that right - and the rest as they say - is history

I know that this is supposed to be a thread about the good stuff... but I have to take issue with this one...
A town you can cross in 15 minutes
I just drove from the Mekong river to my house just south of the flyover in Hua Hin (11 hours) and the worst traffic I hit the whole way was from the Hua Hin airport to the flyover south of town. That bit took 45 minutes!

I can well imagine! Which is why I'm wondering, if you live south of town, why you chose to drive through HH? :?
This is the way

Had to come back.

Great food. Loads of variety.
Easy to find your way around.
Friendly.
Cheap enough for me to spend 2 months here.
Nice balance of quiet to liveliness.
Did i mention the food.

Hua Hin is a nice place to live. I would like to become a permanent resident sooner rather than later.
My family and i bought a house there a few years ago now and we visit a few times each year to sit back, relax and get to know the area a little more.
Last time we were there we hired a car and took a few trips out of town but most of the time was either spent working on the house or taking a few minutes trip in to the city for a stroll or shopping.
The place is magical.
Like has been said before, there are many places to go to be good and only a few places to be bad
So many different varieties of food and restaurants and the local people are plesant ( some can be cheeky but in a fun way ).
Just far enough away from Bkk and just close enough if you have to make a trip.
Nice and close to some special Islands just off of the coast ( Koh Tao )and a weekend trip even further south if you like that kind of things.

In need of some help to become permanent.
