Was having a discussion about what was the worst remake of an old film that anoyne had seen.
For my part, I do not think that you can go past the remake of the early Micheal Caine classic "Get Carter" that starred Sylvester Stallone.
To see Sylvester Stallone try and play the part Micheal Caine played was very painful to watch.
What is eveyone elses thoughts on bad remakes.
Agree with you guys on those two. Real garbage, as are a lot of remakes, if the film was a classic then leave it alone. Same as a lot of these crappy pop bands covering classic records - what a sham!
One remake that i thought was great was "Mean Machine" with Vinny Jones, original was called "The Longest Yard" i think with Burt Reynolds and the guy who played Jaws in the Bond films. The guys involved did a great job.
Aggree with JW on the mean machine with Vinny Jones. From memory the team of inmates in the original film was named the mean machine. I to enjoyed both of the movies very much
I'd agree with the above comments. Incidentally, 'The Longest Yard' has been remade again, with Adam Sandler in the Burt Reynolds role, and Burt himself also appearing - it's OK but the Vinny Jones remake is better, mainly because it has a distinct Englshness to it.
RICHARD KIEL - The big bugger from Jaws, been doin my head in all day trying to remember his name! Sorry off topic but had to get it off my chest. If i had any brains i would have done a google search - now im doouble pisd with myself!!
What they did to Get Carter was criminal...yank kids are gonna grow up thinking that shite was the original. Caine should've sued.
Hollywood's so bereft of ideas they're robbing asian cinema as well now. To be fair, their take on The Ring wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be, but where are they gonna stop? Next one to get the treatment is The Eye. Dunno if anyone's seen it but it's a Hong Kong production which is part set in Thailand - spectacular BKK ending, apparently based on a real life event. Maybe they'll do a good job, but I doubt it.
What about the bad remakes of bad originals?
Had the misfortune last night to watch the recent remake of The Stepford Wives. Truly, truly dreadful... it can't get any worse. Can it ?
I'm sure many folk will disagree but for me, the 'Italian Job' was a well qualified BAD remake. Apart from the fact the robbery was in Italy, I could see precious little connection with the good ol' Michael Caine original.
His films do seem to attract bad remakes, don't they?

The line was "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" & was voted the best catch-line from any modern comedy film a while back!
A truly hard to fiollow, & Holywood sadly failed to even come near doing so!

Sorry for the contradiction here but the Italian job was not a remake, it was a sequel which for some strange reason the makers decided to give the same name to. It starts with Bridger just having been reased from jail. In the first film he was in jail throughout.
I personally enjoyed both films.
But back on the topic of remakes. What about Flight of the Phoenix. The original was credible. The remake is wholly incredible. A poor cast (or miscast), and a poor script.
Another much lesser known remake a couple of years ago was Hunted with two great actors Benicio Del Tor and Tommy Lee Jones. It was a remake of First Blood (the first Rambo film). Guaranteed to send you to sleep.

Good point!
I haven't seen the Pheonix' remake (possibly luckily), but what about that 1998 remake they did of 'Psycho'?
It wasn't so bad, but it was SO similar to the original as to make it virtually pointless. However, giving away my age, I have to say that:
a)- Vince Vaughn was not half as chilling as Anthony Perkins
b)- Gus Van Sant is sure as hell no Alfred Hitchcock!
Other remakes I reckon deserve a Brooklyn cheer include:
Planet of the Apes
Rollerball
Shaft
& yet another MC classic -- Alfie!
Wait long enough & any film that got out of the red will be remade by someone!
