Unless she is working as an employee, I doubt she is paying any National Insurance payments. The only other way to pay them, is to do so voluntary to top up any anticipated shortfall on the state pension.Big Boy wrote: I'd better clarify then:

If she is paying it now, I doubt that she knows why, I doubt that she even realises what she is paying and I also doubt that she realises that if she were to stick it out in the UK to retirement age that she'd get even more money. However, if I am to advise her properly, I do need to know.

If she hasn't been back to the UK for 4 years, it has effectively expired. You get ILR as a permanent resident; if you stop being a permanent resident, you lose the status eventually. Yes, the Embassy will help you, I'm sure, but the advice will probably be to apply for a visit visa, unless you're planning to go back and live there again.Super Joe wrote:D-M, what do you mean by her ILR has expired, on the basis that she hasn't been back to uk in 4 years, so they can say it void ?
See not sure whether to apply for a visa for her or not, maybe Brit Embassy in Bangkok can advise us.

Apparently the Embassy email enquiry set-up is very good, but I haven't used it myself.
This is the way
Thanks D-M, the period set seems to be two years and then certain criteria comes into play. The fact sheets Kendo sent me are clear for certain circumstances, ie: if you are returning as a permanent resident again, but doesn't mention if you are just returning for holiday.
KENDO, shall I put them up on here as pic files ?

This is my understanding. You have paid for the pension. No funds management company would have the right to alter your allowance just because you live elsewhere. The Government are taking liberties IMO and if I were subject to their reduction for living abroad I would take the case to the highest court available.
Hi guess
afraid this matter has gone through every legal channel in the UK all the way to the House of Lords.
The government do not alter your payments but your pension payment is frozen at exact amount when you you leave UK.Some countries like Australia and Canada will top up the sum themselves, others like Thailand and South Africa do not.An English lady who moved th SA in the eighties sued UK gov and eventually lost on appeal in the house of lords.Whether she has moved on to appeal at the Hague tribunal I do not know but I do agree its a national disgrace.
