New bar game

Post by richard »

Think a new bar game will surface soon. It's called 'Find a bar that's not for sale'

Know of 3 for sale already

My favorite is one called Poolsuk Plaza Roulette......bars there, other than the larger established ones, seem to have a shelf life in the weeks....however, always a good place to get free eats at the weekly opening parties

seriously tho....the way "not so high after all" season is looking Id expect to see a lot of bars changing hands....we will see I guess.

Visitor profile has been changing over past few years. Mostly families and married couples now

I think you may have something there, Richard, about the visitor profile.

Last weekend we spent more time than we really wanted to in Hua Hin - the old Cefiro decided it needed a new cylinder head. :( Our usual lunch-time restaurant haunt was doing a fine trade. It was 'table-sharing' time. Mostly middle-aged farang couples or families.

I do feel sorry for the bars. If you don't do food, then you have no other option but to close during religious/election/funeral days, which are becoming ever more frequent.

When I first came to HH I was on a world trip and didn't have much money. Thank God or I would have bought a bar there and then.
I was so caught up in the romance of it all.
By the time I had a larger ammount of money I had learned enough to stay well clear and count my blessings...
Some have made a sucess of running bars but I would have been as doomed as a fat turkey at christmas, I just know it...

10 odd years ago, the bar game was fairly simple. Stick a few pretty faces in there, play some half decent music and show the main sporting events. Sit back, have a beer yourself and be happy.
A year after that and it was a different game. There had to have been 17+ bars that had opened up in the vicinity during that year and there weren't 17+x more visitors.
So we had to think about things. The resolution was to sell.
There are still many farang run bars that are doing very well and they were here before my time. It can be done, but it's not easy.
