Democrats to form new government
Democrats are claiming to have a majority now that that the Buriram faction of the former PPP have joined them. This could get very interesting, Abhisit will apparently be PM.
Only yesterday the opposition was disputing the right of ex-PPP members to vote at all, and now they have some of them voting for them!
When this was brought up a couple of days ago, there were some statements suggesting that putting up Abhisit would cause problems, but that another Democrat MP might be acceptable.
This might be a way forward as it seems now there is a reluctance from the PPP faction to take the job anyway because of the likelihood of getting banned by the courts in the same manner as the last two PMs.

The Democrats and Newin together? I should have been used to the things that go on in Thai politics, but this is beyond my comprehension. There goes the last party I´ve had some faith in Thailand.

i find it helps if you think about Thai politics like a sandpit full of primary school kids. They have their various cliques and gangs, spread rumor and gossip, etc....
Over in the corner wee Newin and wee Thaksin had been building a sandcastle. Thaksin wanted to put parapets on it, Newin a flag.
Thaksin kicked the sandcastle over. Newin hit him with the spade. Thaksin threw sand in his face....
Newin skulked off, dobbed him in to teacher, and now seems to be giving Thaksin two fingers from the sandpit sidelines as he is dragged off into detention....

I am an old dinosaurus and haven´t had a go yet. So it should be me turn next:
Who else are we missing so far: Wattana, Chaloem and .....Goodness, gracious me.Snoh interested to become PM
Pracharaj Party leader Snoh Thienthong on Thursday voiced his readiness for the position of prime minister if deemed necessary for him to come out of retirement to resume full political activities.
Snoh said he would avoid responsibility to steer the country out of the political turmoil.
Under the circumstances, the next prime minister should be a neutral figure selected from the coalition alliance, he said.

Just a side note about Mr. Snoh (Sanoh). When you go through a pothole and break your car axle, are sitting on a bridge and it collapses, and wonder why you see highways getting fixed all the time, you can thank this man. You see, he is in the transport business and for many years has systematically pushed through law changes allowing trucks to carry 35 and yes, even 40-45 tons on a system which was designed for 30 tons of cargo maximum, not including truck/chassis weight. He also says no need for longer flatbeds, multiple extra axles and proper load spreading between axles, "our roads are strong...." I believe was his quote. Weight stations in this country are now simply used as a police checkpoints for contraband. Just another empty suit. Pete

While trying to understand the Thai political situation, the old adage "you can't tell the players without a program" came to mind.
I found the following article helpful in attempting to understand what's happening...

This is what is so farcical about all Thai politics, it is the same crusty old corrupt politicians that keep struggling for more power to satisfy their insatiable greed. Not one of them has the countries interest at heart - just their own.
Forget PPP - anyone over 55 with a prior track record should be banned from politics. They should piss off and retire, get another mia noi or two, and play golf.
The way I see it Abhisit is about the best hope out of a bad bunch at the moment.
