So How Was It? (Christmas Dinner)

Post by hhfarang »

There were lots of threads about Christmas dinner options on here, and I was wondering if anyone would care to report on how theirs was? People may be interested to know for their next holiday planning.

We went to the same (American) restaurant where we had Thanksgiving dinner. They were serving a set Christmas menu including so many courses that I lost count (including a glass of wine) for 499 baht. A good time was had by all and we finished up Christmas night with several rounds of the best margaritas I've ever tasted.

My head feels like it's full of those little Styrofoam popcorn things they use to fill packages with this morning but it was well worth it.

How was yours?

Having skipped Christmas completely for the last 10 years, a touch of nostalgia had me seriously considering the pub thing for a bit of fellowship and mince pie. In the end I called some friends at the last minute and my Thai g/f cooked a sensational 're-tox' spread at home.

A quick download of the best Christmas songs, a couple of strings of twinkly lights, some 'noisy balloons' and cheap Chinese party poppers that didn't go off, and it was one of the nicest Christmas dinners I've had in... errm... ab out 10 years. :thumb:

I did learn one thing, though. Next time I have a party, I'm telling the g/f only 2 people are coming. Anyone fancy some leftovers, please bring a wheelbarrow. :lach:

Nice one Mr Plum - pleased you enjoyed your 're-tox'!
Christmas Dinners in HH were a bit hit and miss at one time and I recall some not too good experiences due to dodgy ovens, and maybe slightly over ambitious bar-keeps who thought they could be Jamie Oliver for a day. Now the food field seems to have narrowed, with thankfully only the more established and experienced still surviving.
But IMHO the Scandinavian/German run eateries tend to get it right, and it's a shame more Brits/Aussies/Americans don't give up on their turkey for once and give them a try.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
