prices wobble about the following;
CHANG - for rugby players - 60bht
LEO - nasty beer - 70bht
SINGHA - posh Thai beer - 70 bht
HEINEKEN - the EU standard - 80 bht
big shot of spirits & mixer - 100 bht
all that is with a big spoon of ish
if you are that worried about drink prices take a bottle of spirits into a bar, drink it, and mark whats left and go back the next day.....

Many places in the Kingdom are selling locally made Tiger and San Miguel now also. I think in the Heineken price range.sandman67 wrote:prices wobble about the following;

It makes little difference though as everything brewed here is s*&t and it's simply a case that we can't getting anything better, unless we pay a fortune for imported. So, the taste buds adjust, or go dry. Pete

well...
I always find a dance with Mr Chang to be generally a good night......
Beer Lao needs an inroad here.....
I see a lot of t shirts here with the "Glock....for when you really need to shoot some ...etc etc"
I think they should run a line of CHANG shirts;
"CHANG....for when your life hurts so much you absolutely need to wake up next to a p**s stained dumpster with a kebab jalapeno wrapped around one ear...."
Beer Lao by the way is sort of Chang Light
...it just akes longer to end up next to the dumpster

Yes San Miguel seems to be making inroads. Maybe because Brits are used to drinking it in Spain? Don't know what you've got against Leo though Sandman!

A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
Ugh! I hate Leo too, rather drink Chang any day.
Sandman is right again! (Wow, since Conkie left we are agreeing a lot!)
The beer I'd like to see here to is Beer Lao... best beer in Southeast Asia according to my taste buds and a lot of awards. It even comes in a delicious dark beer as well! I've seen it in a few bars in Bangkok but can't find it anywhere here.
I always load up the car with a few cases when I visit the wife's village on the border.

Each to their own HHF! I haven't tried Beer Lao but did used to imbibe Archa Beer as well as Leo. Maybe another on the yuck list, as it seems to have disappeared?
BTW 'Conkie'? Is that Corkie? Wheres he gone then?
But back to the subject of beer - not in HH - but in Bangkok theres a great bar on Silom called the Duke of Wellington. Not far out past the end of Patpong, it has very good draft Guinness for 200 a pint, plus live music every night. Obviously a lot of investment has gone into the place, and when I was there last month only 7 customers, with smoking allowed in our 'designated area'.
On the downside a 5 percent service charge not made clear, but with that level of service, good music, good Guinness, and excellent loos, a service charge to me isn't really an issue.
Granted the cost of Guinness in LOS is always going to be more than here in the UK, but I would gladly pay more for my pints here rather than have to cart them outside in the freezing cold to have a cig, and then go to the loo in my local to find them unflushed and cacky.
Prices in some LOS bars may be cause for concern at the moment, especially with poor rates of exchange, but please guys, consider what you get for your money in the overall deal.

Well considering that here in California a skunky American beer will cost a minimum of 90 bhat a pint or bottle and a good qulaity microbrew might cost twice that amount and that you have one cranky barmaid or one old guy trying serve the whole bar; I'd say that you will get quite a good deal in HH. At least I have always thought so.

Margaret mentioned Archa but we've forgotten Cheers. There, I think the local Thai beer list is complete. I agree concerning Beer Lao, in the big bottle, not can.
As a side note for the Holiday's a friend gave me one of those imported Heineken draft cans you tap yourself. Holds about 20 pints I believe. (1,850 Baht). Was that ever a treat as compared to the local Heineken.

We may be paying nothing soon as Thailand will be a dry country. Read the Business Section of today's Bangkok Post. They are really pushing now and one of their first targets is "a dry Songkran", no sales at all. Bloody crazy.

I'm with SM67 and HHF, Leo tastes like dish water.
Chang draught is pretty cool, like that.
Normal Chang is a bit too vengeful and unforgiving.
Singha is fine, the default quality beer here IMO.
Wouldn't even think of buying Heineken in the UK and have not changed my mind because I have moved here, over-rated.
Beer Lao is nice but has availability issues, never quite understood why.
However, Margaret is right with 'each to their own'.
Edited for some suspect spelling.
