Sure it's going mean a crackdown on booze. Well stock up!!
Sure it's going to mean a traffic problem. Stay at home and take a break
Sure it's going to put HH on the map. More future business???

To summarise. Short term, inconvenience. Long term, benefits

It would be a positive if during and before the conference they stop the locals setting fire to anything that doesnt move too quickly.

Cant see just one hotel being used. Each nation will probably have quite a large delegation, so maybe only 1 or 2 delegations per hotel - and then all the travel hassles of getting to the conference site.

In terms of size, how do the Dusit or the Sheraton match up ? They would also be on the 'right' side of town for a quick trip from / to BKK, close to the airport, and would avoid traffic snarl ups in HH itself.

I may well be proved wrong, but I can't see any restrictions being introduced for alcohol sales. Maybe closing times more strictly enforced, but that should be about it.
It's not a religious holiday or a Royal birthday.

I agree with those who think it is a good thing for HH in the long run. It defines HH is perhaps the safest place in LOS to be. That has to be good for HH reputation.

Now if you don't want to see HH grow then I guess you could look at it is bad news.

HH will gets heaps of publicity regarding the conference and make it a more familiar name around the world. But it will be a pain in the a$$ for a week or two. Stock up and stay out of town for a few days.

the conference has been split into two separate events;

first up, at the end of March, we have a small meeting with 10 main delegates only. Then at the end of April we have the main event with many more delegates.

so

potentially we will see two sets of disruption.

The UDD/DAAD/Red Shirt W****ers have already said they intend mass blockading the meetings, so yes we can expect town to be inundated with these clowns. That should serve to close high season off nicely....and piss off any tourists still here.

You really think the idle incompetent local plod and council can cope?

Dream on..... :cuss:

Fascinating as your squabbles are, richard, what do they have to do with the ASEAN summit?

Apologies, everyone. Just one post & you can get back to Asean.

So, Richard. First you make an irrelevant comment, seemingly expected to upset me. Then you say a mod pm'ed you & quoted part of the pm. I'm not sure, but I can't see that quoting pm's is allowed in the rules without permission. Then you won't name the mod (sorry, then amended to member) but you see fit to name ME as if I'm the instigator?

I have no idea what your petty, sad obsession is with getting at me, but quite honestly if I ever agreed with you I'd be worried. So the fact that you see fit to disagree with my very existence is a constant reassurance I must be doing something right.

I do not control anyone either in cyberspace or real life. I guess I should be flattered you consider me capable of mind control, but I'm sorry, I really don't have that power.
I had no knowledge of this thread, your post or the pm until after the fact. If I've got something to say I say it in public and say it myself.

You and others like you are the reason I left this board, Richard. It's a shame, because there are many good members, but even they seem quieter of late.

Sorry for the intrusion everyone. I've said my piece & won't interrupt again. BTW, Happy New Year.

:offtopic: This topic is about the ASEAN meeting so please ignore all of the banter above.

Richard, consider this a one month suspension, please spare a thought before approaching your keyboard, it is not the first time you have insulted people on this forum and now you publicly accuse the mods of something they have not done and break the T&Cs by republishing private messages.

Your account will be reinstated on February 7th.

That's a bit ott. Yes Richard's posts can get a bit close to the bone but on this occasion he apologised and said that it wasn't a mod. Give him a break.

Let me repeat two of the rules from our T&C:

We reserve the right to terminate an account at any time and for any reason that causes harm to any other.

AND

Discussions about moderator or Administrator actions are welcome in email or local private messages, but should not be discussed in public forums.

Clear enough?

Then back to topic.
