I cannot get Thailand out of my head :(

Post by thordk »

Always been weary of going to Thailand because i had an idea that i might open pandora's box. Then i went for the first time, 2 weeks in BKK and 2 weeks in Hua Hin.

And bam ! i cannot get it out of my head, ofcourse its not fun being back to cold weather, financial crisis, sour impolite people and i hope it wears off, but damn i would like to throw everything into the bin here at home at move down there.

Miss it so much !

Good thing with all this is that i think i just got a meaning with everything, and a new goal in life - and that has to be going to thailand on a regular basis from now on, no more jetsetting here back home, save it all and then aim towards thailand.

To all of you who live there on a regular basis, i envy you, its truely paradise on earth.

Why im going back for the 6th time in April!.
I saw many opportunities when i first went, Then learned about the downfalls and the initial dream faded away, Ie: Owning a bar!! Yeah right stuff that now!.

Staying in a community you soon realise its just the same everyday stuff as at home when you live there all the time, Some things better, Some worse.
My ideal would be to live in the Uk and Thailand off and on, My finances at the mo hardly cover one trip out so a bit more work to do.

Dont get me wrong, I love Thailand as much as the first time, But go again and the rose tinted glasses start to become clearer.

I think that's what happens to all of us. Once you visit, it gets in your blood and you can't wait to get back.

Living here full time is a bit different than coming on holiday though as a lot of us have found out. When you are on holiday you have usually saved up for a once a year trip and money is no object so it's fun, fun, fun, every day and night.

Living here (especially in a more expensive tourist destination like Hua Hin) you quickly find that it's very different than being on holiday (unless you have a big bank account or a very good job here).

Thailand has that effect. It does tend to put into perspective the stupid way we do things in the UK. I moved out here about 2 years ago and haven't regretted a thing. I'm lucky enough to have acquired a decent job, there are others that pay more but mine affords a good lifestyle and is amazingly enjoyable, and this allows me to have enough fun to enjoy myself and enough structure not to be bored.

The people are nicer (trust me, for anyone who's never been to the UK, the UK is full of miserable bastards who won't give you the time of day), better (and cheaper) food, a better lifestyle, and of course the sun. The bars I can take or leave, but I understand the attraction for some, and the relaxed pace is good for the soul. I suspect I've added 10 years to my life coming to Thailand, and I get the feeling they'll be 10 very enjoyable years.

Once in a great while I get upset with something and think I'd rather live someplace else. Then I think about it and for the life of me I cannot think of another place I would rather be.

Have lived here full time for about 2 1/2 years and like it more all the time. There are a few things I really dislike about HH, mostly the traffic but in all fairness that just might be age creeping up on me

There's more to like than dislike. Traffic would probably annoy me more if I had a car (I see all the poor buggers in their little metal boxes looking so fed up and thank god I'm not them) but I don't, I have a motorbike so I can get around fairly quickly, and keep my wits about me well enough to have not had any accidents yet, despite the best efforts of Thai drivers.

Basically Hua Hin has all the right things for me, just as it might not have the things that someone else needs. We all have somewhere that's perfect for us, for me that's Hua Hin, for others it may be somewhere else.

Nothing to do with age mate, every time I get behind the wheel my blood boils at the sheer number of retards on the road that jeopardize my wagon and its passengers simply because they're completely oblivious of other vehicles.

I must be the very rare exception but I don't think the traffic is that bad here, except of course during Thai holidays like the recent new year. I have today travelled about 40km around town and environs on business and never been held up once.

I live up on the Pa-la-u road and so long as you avoid the slightly busier times I find it a doddle. Parking is no problem too, just park and walk, novel concept eh?

Maybe because I was a Salesman for 20 years in England living on the M4/M5/M32 I am immune to it. Just remember those rush hours!!!

Is it really that bad?

I know this thread has "drifted" a little gents, but to the OP,

It's all about "whatever floats the boat" dude.

Some are cut out for it(Thailand) and some are not.

There are "runners" and there are "seekers", which one are you man? Sorry to be so pertinent but it is relevent.

The answers are to found within yourself. You are the only one that has the true answers for you dude.

To the OP, there are two/more Thailands to experience, "open the box" man and "push the limits" of the evelope, within reason, whatever that boundary might be, you will find out and the answer may not be what you were expecting, but it will show you much.

I suppose it's "seek and you will find" dude.

Just remember "that a man should know his limitations" and you will feel better for knowing this.

Many have been "swallowed up" by this.

Only the finest man.

Have to step back a few post to "link-up" with it and then apply it in a "loose-fitting" sense, nothing is gospel dude.

Nice to hear from you man. All the best dude.

Holiday periods apart, the traffic and parking in Hua Hin is a breeze. Outside of centre I can park outside bar or restaurant I'm going to.
In centre of town there's one massive car park about 150m from Hilton Road, closes at 10 or 10:30pm, if that's too early there's another massive parking area about 200m from above.
That's apart from all the side roads, City Beach hotel has always, every single time, had a space available for 20B to the security man.
Park in the Hilton for free if a trip to reception isn't too much agg.

Look on the bright side, if this is one of our annoyances, we have a pretty worry free life here
