Ive been reading this forum for some time now, and have allready been enlightened in understanding that Thailand for a lot of people is similar to easy acces of sex and by that also a better life...
I have been brought up in the belief that prostitution is not good under any sircumstances and still cannot see otherwise - which brings me to the point:
How come that prostitution apparently is so "common" accepted in the Thai culture? - or is it so accepted?
I have just been to Thailand once yet, and I am truly fascinated by the beaches, food and charming people, and get kind of frustrated not to know and understand the way the Thais are thinking about this....

Prostitution is part of life all over the world, its commonplace everywhere, its just more visible in the less well developed parts of the world. For the Thai people who engage in it, it gives them te best chance of income and also the best chance of meeting someone to be a partner. There are good and bad elements to all societies and this one is just the same. Take a look at your own country and do a search on "escorts" in your local area, you will be surprised at the results.

I know I seem naive in this subject, and that is of course because I have been spared for this " experience in life"..., but never the less I cant help wondering how the Thais are thinking of this?
All though prostitution is all over the world, and in any social environment, I have never been faced with it so "openly" before, and it makes me wonder if Thailand/ the Thai people is more open minded than most other countries about this? and if so, why? Is it their religion ? Mai pen rai?

Prostitution is prevalent and open throughout Asia, not just Thailand. It maybe because more westerners come to Thailand than any other country in Southeast Asia that they are open to it and can see whats going on.
You only need to take a look at the history of Pattaya from the Rn'R days of the US military to get your answer for the abundance of it from a Western perspective in this country.
I cant answer for a Thai but I'm guessing they see it as a job, without the stigma that western society attaches to it.

"Working girls" to whom I have spoken, say "it's my job, it's what I do to make money" ! Ok, at times it must be gruesome, but at others it must be fun. Who are we to stand in any kind of judgement ?! Sex outwith a loving relationship doesn't ring some people's chimes, yet it suits others according to their circumstances.

The majority of BG's I have spoken with are realistic amd honest about their CHOICE of employment.
With virtually no education and the class system in Thailand their prospects are very limited. The vast numbers choose to work in factorys or farms for up to twelve hours a day receiving a relatively small monetary return.
Most of the girls I know well, admit that they are to lazy to follow that route or want to help their families up the village ladder.
They are all aware it was their choice and not something forced upon them. Generally they admit to having more good times than bad in their chosen profession and all would find the financial rewards hard to leave behind.

There's just a bit too much hypocrasy in Western cultures on this topic and it often, wrongly, seems to focus on the "poor exploited girls". As most appear to have made the decision voluntarily to enter their profession, one wonders who is exploiting whom.........

There are buyers and there are sellers.
For most working girls its not an entirely free choice.
They need the money and other opportunities are not there for them.
They know its business and so do many of us.
Doesn't mean it can't be carried out with decency, respect and compassion.
Anybody who moralizes about it and wants to stamp it out should be put to the task of first finding alternate income sources for working girls.

You will not get a straight answer here. The majority of foriegners are with prostitutes but will deny it or say she was a cashier.
Very few foriegners are with proper normal Thai girls, in fact they will dilute the term prostitute by calling them BG's, Bar Girls or Working Girls.
Respect the Thai Women/Girls with honest jobs. Prostitutes have little respect for themselve's.
You can catorigie's them as follows;
1. The career prostitutes
2. The local scrubbers that have been with all the Thai guys in the village and have now decided to get paid for it.
3. The Thai girls that have been abandoned and have children.
Take you choice
