Thai Sci-Fiction

Post by Spitfire »

Wasn't sure where to put this, either here or in the 'Entertainment' section, but chose here.

When I see the Mrs watch Thai TV, we all know the kind of programs that are on, but I never see any sci-fi.

Well, the question here is "Why?"

Is it just a culture thing?

Does anyone have any insight into this?

The Mrs says that they have a little but I've never seen any to mention of or that I can really remember.

Is it just me?

Anyone else seen any?

the nearest thing you may get to sci fi i suppose is those weird ghost type programs which the thais seem to love
they cant wait to see them even if they all appear to be virtually same with very similar endings

Probably the same reason that 99% of their music is either puerile love ballads or nationalistic country songs.

Sci-fi would also imply some knowledge of technology and after reading the interview with the new ICT minister one has got to assume that they're still trying to figure out how that wheel thing works!

I’ve seen my partner’s son watching one Thai show that is a sort of fantasy type thing with the odd ray-gun and the suchlike but it’s not exactly Star Trek.
I suppose one reason could be that full blown science fiction must be very expensive to produce compared with the usual fare of hysterical Bangkok girls and Halloween party style ghost effects.

Buksi that is hilarious! LOL Thanks for the laugh and you have it exactly right.

That interview ranged from sad to silly and back again. I kept shaking my head in amazement as I read it.

You gotta wonder how this woman can find the door to her office without help.

I did watch what must have been the Thai version of Superman a few years back. It was very poor, and yes, you could see the strings.

I think the only sci-fi they have is dubbed into Thai.

It's not popular with the masses like in the west alas.
