Cambodian entry fee??

Post by usual suspect »

Next month its time to do a 'visa-run', thinking I could be quite canny and go to Aranyapratet (or however its spelt),skip over the border, pop back with 90 days of visa,Then tie this in with a visit to the wifes home
up near Nang-rong.
However...I've heard to get into Cambodia, even if just doing a visa-run its 1400b that the Cambodians want off you!..is this true???

Done that run a few years back and was never charged that much if you do it yourself. There are 'visa agents' offices there that get it done speedily for a fee, also an Imm officer suggested we pay 500 Baht a passport for him to leave Thailand and go over to Cambodia and do it for us, we just sat on Thai side and had a beer. Things may have changed though.

My wife's family are in Nang Rong too, although we chose Aranyaprathet so we could nip back into Bangkok for the night without the wives

Have a good trip,

Cheers for that SJ, that option of doing a visa-run and family visit may still be on the cards then...thanks.

I have been informed that you pay a hefty "exit fee"(was told 25$) on leaving Cambodia. Not sure if true everywhere or whether still in operation but was about a year ago. Many mates came back saying the were 'shafted' on that when leaving.

I've been trough Aranya a couple of times and personally I'd be very wary of giving my passport over to anyone on the Thai or Cambodian side for a fee. I appreciate what SJ has said and I've done roughly the same on the Cambodian side (even more risky). That is just my opinion though.
However, if you do it the "correct way", you're going to have to pay for a "visa on arrival" to Cambodia. That was 1,200 Baht a few years ago. It might have gone up as everything's linked to the US dollar, but that will be about correct.
I've never heard of an "exit visa/charge" back to Thailand, but there are certainly some very unscrupulous officials on both sides who'll take you for 100 Baht here or 200 there if you're not careful.

I've just had a thought. There's apparently another border crossing to Cambodia a bit south of Aranya. I can't remember the name though. That is meant to be a lot more relaxed because Aranya/Poi Pet is a hell hole as far as I'm concerned.
Can anyone else help out with the name? Kap Chong????? or something like that?
Wherever it is, it won't mess your travel plans up to Nang Rong too much, Usual Suspect. But you'll still have to pay for the visa into Cambodia.

To the best of my thinking you have:

1. Hat Lek
2. Chong Jom
3. Chong Sa Ngam
4. Ban Pakard
5. Ban Laem

Not sure which fits best with your proposed travel plans or whether foreigners are permitted to use them all, think so though, but might be a good reference.

Maybe no.2 is the one Lomu is talking about.

Edited for glaring mistakes

Kap Choeng immigration office is 12km from Prasat , i think the road number is 214 the boarder crossing is another 20km Chong Chom.
Chong chom border road down to Aranyaprathet is nearly 3 hours on the border road lots of check point charlies we allways get fined 3-4 times for illegal driving manovers  tea money that really winds me up.

As for the crossing i have not personally done it but every farang i have spoken to about it reconds it's a piece of piss, no problem's.
I have been up to the border crossing just to have a look you will have problems trying to find a parking space, because of all the Thai's in the casino, and you will get befriended by lots of tout's and they really do pester you even if your with a Thai.
