It would surely depend on what position, what Hotel and how many days they work.

Bog standard I would guess around 300 a day.

I forget what the minimum wage is now, 280 Baht? That would put a chamber maid and waitress at about 7,000 per month, up to probably 15-20 for front desk people. Pete

The set minimum wage varies depending on the province. Unfortunately, this area is pretty low. I think it's around 170 baht per day

Some of my ex-students have jobs in hotels and the starting wage for someone with a degree in English is around 12,000 baht. This is for front desk or customer relations.

As BaaBaa quite rightly said, it depends on the position, and of course experience. A good command of English means a better position and a higher salary.

I don't think you'll ever find out why. Den rarely returns to a thread after his 6 to 12 word questions.

You will certainly never receive any thanks for your attempts to help him.

I've already learnt the hard way :guns:

That's something I'm surprised Thaksin didn't change, given his desire to "help the poor...". All an unequal scale does is draw people to Bangkok, tourist and factory areas rather than develop the country equally. It also splits families and massively wastes fuel and transportation resources. Rather than an unequal pay scale, there should be tax and other incentives for businesses to set up operations up-country, but pay a standard wage in return. Pete

Oh, he did Pete. He let them borrow 10,000 baht, and then pay it back a year later with 100 baht interest. This was all done under the control of the PYB of course, and if they couldn't pay it back the nice PYB would lend them the money at a healthy interest per month  .

In our village there are very few working-age males. I guess for that reason. The women all go off to the Dole pineapple factory (earning the minimum wage), while the grandmothers look after the kids.

You'll always find wages higher in cities, it's the same in the UK, but I agree that it encourages folk to go to the bright lights instead of staying with their families.

:offtopic:
It would be nice to hear from the OP as to whether any of our advice or comments have been helpful...

Minimum wage regs are fine and good.
Enforcing them is another matter and I suspect employers pay the minimum they can get away with.
They know there are many people neding jobs. And larger businesses can more easily lay out tea money so labour dept. snoops stay happily at their desks.
