My post was purely selfish

Many of us know of him as the lovable rogue ( Ive know him him since he set foot in Thailand and know a little of his background in the UK), but I used to call him and get my order delivered to perfection. Golden batter, thick chips, mushies, curry sauce and a few scraps

Only ever placed my order with him as he knew how I wanted it

I know the 'lovable rogue' has upset a few bods but I like his fish and chips and thats that . Not sure his staff could deliver the same :D

ps The other reason was I was going to attend a F/C night out there with Maggie and Bill and HHtel will verify that

I passed by the Fish n' chip shop last night and spotted Richard with a G&T in hand! He now has a Thai couple running the place - Ben & Jib. Richard informed me they work at Chiva Som doing French Cuisine so if you fancy fish n' chips expect top quality. My Thai girlfriend and I both had cod n' chips and it was absolutely perfect. Almost too good (if you know what I mean). The chips were cooked to perfection and the batter superb. The kitchen is spotless and you can tell these new guys are professional - when we asked for fish n' chips we were offered Cod, Halibut, Scampi, Snapper, King Fish, Calamari, Scallops and a few more I can't remember! They also do breakfasts and a "romantic" Thai menu (whatever that means). Can't see Richard hanging on to these guys for long - too up market.

Richard has now fully recovered from his ordeal in hospital - apparently he had rat poison (don't ask!)

Just after our meals were served the electricity failed and we ended up eating under candle light! Never a dull moment!

As I was the OP on this thread, nothing could make me happier than to hear that report. Since my original post I've tried many other (some suggested, some not) places for fish and chips and I have not found an equal to Richard's establishment.

I am an American, but have traveled extensively in Britain, Australia, and New Zealand, frequenting pubs and having fish & chips in each of those places and have not had better fish & chips than at the Original Fish and Chip Restaurant here in Hua Hin.

Keep up the good work Richard!

Glad he's back up and running. Always enjoyed his fare whether there or delivered

During his lull I used a pub/bar close to Lolitas and couldnt fault his cod, chips and mushies. Owned by a Yorkshireman of course :D

Crazy88,

It is just north of the horrible Chomsin road intersection at the railroad tracks (near G market). It's on the east side of the tracks with all the little Thai shops but only this one is glassed in and air conditioned. There is a big sign that says "Original Fish and Chips".

Hi Richard if you are reading

Went tonight and had the best Fish chips and mushies outside of Gods county (Yorkshire) in your place

Fish (cod) excellent. Even the Thai wife said it was was the best she'd tasted and asked where we can get it from. I explained we would need a boat about 6000 miles away in the north sea to catch one

The batter was just right. Crisp and not too heavy (made with a beer mix) Bem has offered to teach the missus how to make the batter and cook the fish. Fish and chips in Khon Kaen????????

The chips just done fine

The mushies and tartare sauce just right

The pot of tea and bread and butter made it

Mags and Billy, Just like the Gainsborough in ull or Harry Ramsdens in Ilkley. Bit more than the 1 shilling and tuppence I used to pay though
:D

Compliments Richard to the proprietor Bem Choeg Ngam. He's a gem you need to hang on to

Going for a breakfast tomorrow at 9am if I surface on time

Congrats :D :D

You're the 2nd one to mention breakfast. Is it a fish breakfast, or a traditional breakfast?
