Richard: I've been researching removal firms in Thailand, as we're moving up to Nakhon Pathom at the end of April.

Believe it or not Pickfords have an office in Bangkok. I sent them the information they needed and they promptly came back with a quote. For just under 20,000 they'll pack all the stuff, provide boxes, and move us in a covered truck from here to there.

Another firm (which I think is run by a farang) called 'Big Boy' were much more expensive - maybe they didn't want the job. :?

We used a local cattle truck with a couple of old boys to move down here, and, yes, it was cheaper 6 years ago (3,000 baht), but quite frankly I can't be bothered with the hassle and unreliability, not to mention the unprofessional way things were flung into the truck. The weather in April could be unpredictable and I really don't want our paintings and furniture to be ruined by a leaky tarpaulin.

It obviously depends on how much, and how valuable, your stuff is. There's always a local with a truck who would be willing to do the job, it's just up to negotiation as to how much it'll cost you.

Good luck.

There is a big professional moving company called Hong Kong Transpac in Bangkok on a soi off of Suk Soi 26. They have a big warehouse and offices there.

When we moved here from the states we had a professional mover pack our stuff over there and fill a 40 foot container which was then delivered to the port of Miami by truck. At that point Hong Kong Transpack took over and received it at this end in Bangkok, trucked it to Hua Hin and unpacked it for us.

My understanding is that they do "in country" moves too (they moved some friends from Hua Hin to Bangkok), but I'm not sure how expensive they are for that type of move.
