mosquito trap or killer

Post by m_right »

I have too many of the little bastards in my house. They come in when the doors open and then find hiding places.
Has anyone used anything for indoors to catch or kill them that is available here and works. I saw a few devices in Home Pro but I have no idea if they work.

First off, get screens on your doors and windows and make sure people CLOSE the screen doors when entering/exiting. That will cure 90% of your problem. Thai's don't like to close doors.

Go to Tesco and buy a few ARS Mats devices. The unit looks like a red, fat pancake, and the insert is a blue square wafer. You plug in "A" and insert "B" into it, in rooms where you have a problem, and it kills the mosquitos without you being overcome by insecticide smell. Lasts 8-12 hours.

If you're behind the curve, as appears to be the case, and your house is infested, buy a few cans of RAID or BAYGON mosquito spray, close all windows...spray the hell out of the house, close the doors and leave for an hour, then see paragrah #2 above. Welcome to the tropics. Pete

I have one of those "black hole" catchers and it works very well.
I have the both the large and small one and they definatly work. Expensive i guess but to me worth it.
I normally spray the house before going out in the evening and i still get them in the traps, that is with screens etc.

Just get one of the Tennis Racket Mosquito Zappers from Tesco, 100 Baht.

Once you've closed up for the night, spend 5 minutes clearing your rooms, good fun actually.

I've read that burnt dried orange peel or mint works well.

Eat the orange, put the peel out in the sun to dry and then put it on one of those cute little candle-light thingies (meant for essential oils) that you can buy anywhere here.

I haven't tried it myself as, luckily, we don't have a problem here - but apparently the scent from the peel makes the mozzies drowsy.

Alternatively, drink loads of gin & tonic. :)

I think I prefer option 2!

they are in homepro, prices i think were 1200 for the small one and 3000+ for the bigger one which also takes a sticky pad not sure how much these are as i used the ones in the pack.
the smaller one looks like a frog made for kids rooms i guess and the bigger like a black lanten.
Im in the uk at the moment and have just bought another type to try out side which also has a fan in it but is for a much larger area, the idea that mossies are quite weak at flying so they are attacted to the light and get pulled in by the fan and cannot excape.
hope this helps

The "Black Hole" and an electric swatter combination have done the trick. Thanks for the help.

is it possible to make the buggers fluoresent. Like the scorpian.
Then a zapper bat modified with a UV light attached.
NOW that's a sport.

Real mozzie sport "our man Flint" style

Cut the ends off old shoelaces and fray the cotton ,then push a pin through to create a dart .The dart can be blown through a drinking straw or preferably a bic biro with the insert removed .In order to avoid collateral damage aim away from the fishpond where they are breeding .Wouldn't want an innocent oranda to cop one in the adipose now would we ?

Happy hunting

Mr. C

What kind of childhood did you have?

Or are you still in it?

1st part of the night you're so "tired" you don't care, 2nd half of the night mozzies are so drunk they can't bite you :lach:

If you are on a budget, in Makro over towards Pranburi they sell a range of electric mosquito killers that are a lot less expensive than those Black Hole things.
I bought one for about two hundred baht that is basically an ultraviolet light with a coil around it that seems to kill plenty of then judging by the corpses that collect on it every night.

Well I remember sneaking into the monkey enclosure at Hong Kong zoo and having all my hair pulled out and my ear bitten the day I ran away from home .Followed by stowing away on a junk across the harbour and getting caught stealing some food before a very rich Chinese lady drove me home in a fancy car .Also recalll the screams of the teachers when i produced a banded krait for the school nature table .I was 5 .Mother assures me it was all downhill from there . :D
