Food for thought

Post by richard »

Just struck me today

As we all know, Thais only eat once a day---All day :)

I'm sat at my laptop surfing away but I am able to see the TV 5 metres away which the wife is watching. So I clock both.

Every channel (Thai) seems to be dominated by food and even the Ad's

As a movie watcher I often used to think 'don't these guys and gals ever eat?'

Deprive a Thai of food and watch the mood change :D

Same in Africa too

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

Just some thoughts:
In the UK, food manufacturers are the largest spending category of advertiser by far.
Product placement on UK soaps is big business. OK, usually led by PR companies rather than advertising agencies, but it's still big money.
So maybe the Thais are simply copying the west in media terms?
As far as eating habits are concerned, I think that the heat has a lot to do with it. Thais just don't seem to be brought up on the three square meals a day mentality. Who can blame them? I find myself "snacking" on food throughout the day as well. Breakfast is generally quite important (and not beer) but if I have a heavy lunch then it's game over and I'll fall asleep for a few hours.
The bar staff maybe eat away because they're bored?
