I really liked HH's reply.
I'm from the UK and hated the weather, couldn't wait to get out of the country. I had a great job, many friends, plenty of money, own house, car etc. I left it all behind.
Never regretted coming to Thailand.
I'm just glad that I didn't come here for the other pleasures in life!
Onlyme.
Are you a permanent resident in Hua Hin?
7 years, 26 days, 16 hours, 10 minutes.
Or thereabouts.
I'm older now, certainly slowed down, but Hua Hin is the place I've lived longest ever and I have no intention of leaving. Good news for some, bad for others I'd guess! It's still got that magic something I felt when I first came - no, strike that - visited, 10 years ago.

Just cast my vote but made a balls of it. Clicked Year round, but on reflection its only 8-9 months, as I come and go alot, but it feels like Year round - its my home.
Sorry I'm a bit spaspodic on this forum. Using it recently, but missed the original Poll when Randy started it back in October. Just spotted it today cos someone else replied to it.
Love it here. Love the pace, love 'most' of the people. Hate moaning Ex-pats, but not too many on this forum. Love the food, the beach, the weather, the golf, the country, the people (did I say that already) - oh well love going senile in the sun.

Hi Onlyme - oh you poor old sausage! 'Leaving it all behind'. Worth it though I agree. Most of whats left behind would be useless now anyway. The old telly for example. Friends and family are a phone call or e mail away. And as we've said many times planes go both ways.
Personally I found it good to actually get rid of the possessions before moving to LOS. You realise how little you really need.
It certainly knocked the 'consumerism' out of me, and even after 4 years back in the UK I don't WANT a car anymore. Or a mortgage thank you very much!
The cost of maintaining a property/car these days is just rediculous, and often unecessary.
So despite having to come back to the UK I'm glad of the time spent in LOS. Without that experience I'm sure I'd be really struggling to cope now on pensions.
