Second-hand furniture stores?

A friend of mine rented a nice little house which was newly renovated for a great price, but without any furnitures. Since she will only be here for another year, she doesn't want to spend a fortune furnishing the rented house, and the landlady will not buy over the furnitures when she leaves.

Wondering if anyone out here will know a place which sells second hand furnitures?

I am not sure whether it is still there but there was an Index store in Petchburi
furniture there is new, cheap and dare i say of reasonable quality

i bought from another index in nakhon sawan a leather sofa bed, coffee table, normal king size bed and a wardrobe and dresser for less than 10,000 baht

BaronW is right that for a fairly short term stay the Index store is probably the best option. But the whole concept of buying 'second hand' is generally quite alien to the Thais, so you don't see second hand stores there like you do in other countries.
Good furniture is kept in the family and lasts literally for generations. It seems to become a 'status' thing. Walk around the old part of HuaHin where there are still some original Thai houses, and you will see that often the shutters are open to display antique furniture and often long case clocks.
Most Thais would consider it a loss of status to have to buy second hand furniture. Have you noticed how they keep part of the polythene wrapping on things like bar stools and tables? It shows that they were bought new.
So usually only Farangs sell second hand goods through private ads, or the occassional yard sale.

Excellent point BaaBaa. One I hadn't thought of but I can see how it could be very relevant. Is there a connection then with all the collections of clocks in temples? Are the clocks donated so as to preserve the spirits in a safe resting place?

Thank you so much guys! This is a great help. It is interesting that I learn something new about the Thai culture everyday. My friend will go check out the Index in Petchaburi sometime soon, and I'll let you know it it's still there.

There is an Index in Hua Hin - if you look on the immigration thread there is a map showing exactly where it is.

Any chance of some pics and a breakdown of prices .You can,t get a decent mattress for that in HH index let alone all the other stuff .Have a friend who needs to furnish a house .Might be worth the drive to save some cash .

i think you can be getting the bed,sofa,table,wardrobe blah blah for less than 20,000 BUT they will be poor quality.matress like wood.
