Bus to Bangkok

Post by pinky »

Hi. Got a couple of elderly relatives coming to visit, would like to take them upto Bangkok for the odd day out. We usually use the minibus which is great... but think they would appreciate a toilet on board. Any ideas (serious ones please) :D The VIP bus any good? And how long does it take? Unfortunately old age comes to us all
Cheers

Take a private car (with driver). I know that's expensive but if your folks are elderly that's the only way to go. I'm fifty something and negotiating the stairs to the toilet in a moving bus and then doing what I need to do while bouncing off the walls is extremely difficult for me.

Don't put your folks through that...

Or maybe the train would be better and more comfortable even though it takes longer.

The bus toilets are usually pretty rank and off-putting as well. No place for nice older ladies to pee!
Take a car or maybe the train and stay overnight, round trip in one day plus sightseeing might be a bit taxing.

On the Thai trains that I've been on (only about a dozen), the toilets haven't been too good either :?

And if they take a taxi, not too good at the service stations on the highway either!
Hmmmm, what to do?

Perhaps the answer would be to make a quick detour into the Big C Mall at Petchaburi, the toilets there are fine and then hopefully no further stop would be needed before Bangkok but if it is then there is always the Carrefour Mall and I am sure the toilets there will be OK but have never used them so.........

The toilets at the bigger petrol stations that have 7/11s and restaurants aren't bad (by Thai standards). You just have to remember to take your own paper in (and I don't mean for reading)!

If you go by road ask driver to stop at petrol stations with toilets for the disabled. If he doesn't know, most of the larger stations have them. Usually have western style toilets rather than the Thai squat toilets. Maybe better for the older ladies.

We used a young Thai taxi driver regularly when we took 83 year old Mother In Law to Bangkok and he got to know the places with the better toilet facilities and would stop there. Very thoughtful. (Have his number if you want it - send me a pm!)
