GF arriving London with a one Way ticket

Post by Sabai Jai »

A friend's Thai GF is arriving London Shortly. She has a visitors visa but she's only bought a one way ticket for some reason.

Do you think this will be a problem at Immigration?

There is a chance that she might not even be allowed on the aircraft.

if she gets to the U.K. she will not pass immigration. a condition of the visa is that she has a return ticket.

I think I would agree with the other posters. The main criteria for granting visitor visas is the immigration team need to believe the visitor will return to Thailand. If she gets as far as the UK, she's going to have a very good story to get past airport immigration.

Yes, she needs to change it and the difference between a single and return is marginal in the grand scheme of things.

If there is money to be made, of course they will. Wonder how many impressionable thick-as-a-whale-omelette youngsters will want to be 'just like Jade'?

Another reason to be thankful for being in the LOS.

Hope they bury her next to Diana. She was luvverly really. :roll:

GF arriving in London with one way ticket

BigBoys take on the one way ticket sounds about right. But on the subject of visas and flights for Thais to the UK - heard on the grapevine that a Brit over here currently has an application for funding being considered by the Royal British Legion, for his Thai wife to come over.
I just hope they don't insist on sending the funds - if agreed - over to LOS!

Heres how the Home Office / Immigration Service thinking on this runs:

1) All Thais are poor dirt farmers who given a chance will scrounge off our medical service/social service etc.....;

2) All Thai women under the age of 30 are likely to be prostitutes;

3) All single Thai women on one way tickets traveling are definitely prostitutes;

4) Single women traveling alone are in fact usually traveling as a group of "single women" who are there to meet a handler and .... see (2) and (3);

4) One way tickets mean they aint going back.

Basically your lass will hit every warning trigger that profiles traveling sex workers.....and the IS think we in the UK have a major problem with Thais being traffiked......

So

Your lass will, almost certainly, get to Immigration, get detained in front of the whole line of people, and then spend a few hours in a cell and an interview room being grilled and humiliated by Immigration Officers before being deported on the next flight back....not pleasant at all.

Her giving them your contact details during the interview means you may well be "looked at" as a potential traffiker.

Swampy staff are not supposed to let her board the plane at this end....but when has that ever worked ?

Tell her to change the ticket or expect a very rude and very humiliating welcome at the UK end. IS can be pretty brutal about their approach, and for people who worry so much about loosing face thats a real bad thing mate.
