Wrong number!

Post by buksida »

Has anyone noticed how Thais deal with wrong numbers?

Phone rings ...

"hullo"

"hello"

.... "hullo"

"hello"

.... "who is this?"

"who did you call?"

.... grunt "farang" .... hang up.

30 seconds later ... ring ring ...

"hullo"

"tor pit khrap" (wrong number)

"hullo" .... "where are you?"

"where did you call?"

Hangup ...

I could go on ... :banghead:

Why are wrong numbers always in, when you ring them?? :?
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.

:? :? :? If they weren't in and didn't answer the phone, you wouldn't know you had dialed a wrong number, now would you... :? :? :?

Yeah Buksi, agree, what gets me is when someone rings me up, says "halooo" a few times then asks me who I am.

I say "You bloody well rang me up, don't you know?"

Wrong number

Ooooh yes! Very annoying! Many moons ago in HH we concluded that it wasn't wrong numbers at all. Simply Thais phoning who didn't expect a farang to pick up, and couldn't speak enough English to communicate without losing face.
Whereas in the UK I get cold calls from companies who use foreign staff, and if I can't understand them I'm afraid I react very badly. Once told a poor foreign caller to please get a job which didn't involve having to speak clearly in English. Bad I know. Stressed out at the time!

HH

If they are not in when I ring first time, I keep trying until they are home.

try whistling really loud down the phone at em as high pitched as you can manage.....they think its a fax machine.

that or just dont answer any unidentified number..... thats what I do. I always either put mates numbers in my phone, or get them to text me first so I know its them and not another idiot.

wrong number

In HK local calls used to be free of charge - some of the thai and philipino gals would have a habit of randomly dialling numbers and seeing who was on the other end - if they liked the sound of the recipient they would chat for hrs leading often to a date - strange habit never quite worked it out!
