Songkran. Same bloody thing.

Here we go again. Another 95 families affected by premature death.
Wage earners, mothers, children.
Of course, there will be hundreds more.
Poor driving. Drunk/driving. Tired. etc.
Would someone politely explain to these wonderful people that an effigy of Budda on the windscreen wont stop them going through it. That belt thingy just might.
I can't change it, or would assume i have the right to do so.
Happy Songkran guys.
Hate to be patronising.
BUT drive carefully the next few days.

I'm staying in tomorrow and being a grumpy old git. I've seen enough Songkrans. However, my wife is determined to go up to her family's in HH and play with water. She'll leave about 9am on her bike and then proceed to get totally smashed. All I've said to her is that I don't care how drunk she gets or what time she falls over. Just either stay overnight with the family (10 mins away by bike) or get someone else to bring her home.
I hope she heeds my suggestions.

And hope that if she gets someone else to bring her home that they aren't drunk as well...Just either stay overnight with the family (10 mins away by bike) or get someone else to bring her home.

I'm with you Lomu, seen enough of this madness. The wife always likes to take a drive around town (in a car, and she doesn't drink) to see the goings on but I recon I'll even pass on that this time.
After all, the final round of the Masters is on the tube!

I've read in the news today that the vast number of those killed and injured so far were on motorcycles, not in cars. Pete

All activities in Bangkok have been cancelled. There is a 'no more than 5 in a group..' in force. Doubt they'll enforce it though in the normal water throwing areas. Pete

Sorry guys but it's a Thai way of life and it's not going to change. Don't forget, it is their New Year and afterall, with New Year celebrations, goes a certain amount of madnes, in all countries.
If it's not something you wish to be involved it, just stay indoors. Unfortunately that's were I'll be this year as I'm looking after the kids today.

Certainly everyone should have a good time, throw water around and let their hair down. However, roads are dangerous enough at the best of times and they don't need drunken idiots making them any worse.
I wonder how many innocent people will die over this Sonkran period. You know, the sober person driving a car who gets hit and killed by an irresponsible fool. That's manslaughter in my book.
Nothing wrong with Songkran and if people want to kill themselves then they can get on with it. Not innocents though.
As an aside, Lomu drank too many of the stashed beers last night so only has two left. He's only got 40 THB in cash so a trip to the ATM will be necessary. It's gonna be gauntlet time in an hour or so

Agree 100%
I've also run out of beer and cash but unlike you, I can just pick up some more beers from the local shop and then square them up tomorrow, so, no running the guantlet for me.......good luck

The delayed broadcast was repeated twice each day for the last four days on StarSports. I think the second delayed one is still running as I write this.
I saw the first delayed broadcast from 10 a.m. today until around 3 p.m. and it was excellent, with actually a double tournament going on with the leaders, and Tiger and Phil M. going head to head right behind them!
Great stuff!
