If you can't get it done in Bangkok or it's a problem, then, don't want to sound silly, which has happened before and will probably again, but if you are going back to HH then you could try the sponsor at the top of the page, think it's called "Hua Hin Digital Surgery".

EDIT: Don't want to sound anally-retentive richard but the title may need an edit. :thumb:

Richard,

I recommended a place to CraigDunn when he posted a similar problem on an earlier thread. They had recovered a dead drive for me years ago. You may want to PM him and see it they did good work for him.

They are in Bangkok...

In my case, there wasn't anything physically wrong with the disk. The data (address table) had become corrupted some way and the guy in Bangkok recovered the table that points to all the data and everything was great again.

Even if the disk has a physical problem there is still a good chance that some, most, or even all of the data that was on it can be recovered and written to a new disk or other media. It's usually still there; accessing it is the problem. Pros have special tools for this.

That's why you never give or throw away an old computer or disk drive without completely destroying the disk physically or using a disk erasing program to write (garbage) from beginning to end. Otherwise any personal data that you had on that disk can still be recovered and used by someone who may not have your best interests in mind.

Thanks for that information.
I have never recovered a hard disk.
I enjoy periodicaly reinstalling windows.
45 minutes later a new machine.
3 weeks later somewhat similiar to what you had before.
But a little faster.
As a learned the hard way.
Backing up is the only answer.
I use a 400gb notebook thingy.
Now.
I worry.
Should my computer die with an irrecovorable virus caused by downloading Debbi does Dallas 2009 in Ukraine with english subtitles.
And i just happen to be outside on a summers evening. And a shower of magnetic meoterites pass close.
Would my notebook thingy be erased.
Now i would have a bigger dillema.
Should i have backed up my back up.
And what on.
I wondered what i was actually recording for posterity.
Realised wouldn't fit a decent photo album.
Don't you love progress.
Very tongue in cheek.

KOMF

using a utility like acronis migrate easy u can create a bootable image of yr hard drive which includes all your apps and operating system.

in the event of yr pc dying or u wanting to refromat you can just load the disk and hey presto yr system is back up and running in a few minutes

no installations as such required
CDK

there are three sorts of people in this world those that can count and those that cant
