Supatra By The Sea

Post by hhfarang »

Yesterday was the missus birthday so I treated her (and myself) by taking her to this expensive romantic seaside restaurant.

Places in this price range are normally only relegated (by me) to birthdays, anniversaries, or other special occasions. We decided to go to Supatra in Takiab this time after our (questionable) Valentine's day experience at my wife's other favorite restaurant.

We went around 6:30 p.m. as I like to do so that you can sit by the sea at twilight and get different views and ambiances as day turns into night during the meal.

We had a Pina Colada, two glasses of white wine, two appetizers (each nearly a meal in itself, one crab and the other salmon). Then we had three main dishes shared between us (crab curry, a nice scallop dish, and sea bass), and shared a banana split for dessert.

The food, ambiance (with live dinner music), and service were all excellent other than one service blunder; my wife asked that the appetizers be brought first and the main courses served after we had finished the appetizers and they brought everything at the same time.

All in all a good experience and the missus was very happy with it. :D

The bill came to just a bit over 2k baht including the added 10% tip (but we brought home enough leftovers to feed us another meal today :D)

Here's the view from our table (pardon the blurring, but it was made with my wife's point and shoot without a tripod... anyway, you get the picture).

Yes, it is a very nice setting, and the only problem I ever have there is that I don't eat fish (don't like it) or seafood (allergy), and the remaining selection does not leave much choice! However that is down to me and I have had the same problem with many restaurants in the area. It has always been a very pleasant experience whenever I have been to Supatra as well.

WL,

Sorry to hear about your seafood allergies. That's terrible to be living in a place with so much fresh and delicious seafood and not be able to partake! :(

Yes, told this story the last time WL mentioned his allergy, about my Dutch friend nicknamed "Lips". Any slight taste of seafood or even fish type sauce as an ingredient would swell his lips up to huge sizes, up to his nose and halfway down his chin. Too much, and his entire throat would close up and off to the ER for respiration. Seafood allergies seem to be serious and hit hard for those who have them. :( Pete
