inquired in local bank for visa card ok no problem give you visa platinum card very good yes it is they lie to you that the hold 200k for 6 months as gurantee then put back in account all very good not so they dont put anything back just hold your 200k till you cancel the card the k-nt who got me to sign up with my thai gf or many years sitting with me while the bank person lied through her teeth what is the point in having a card holding your 200k and you still pay the ballance off monthly like a real visa card amazin con in thailand :cuss:

Thanks for the advice, bozzman - I'll try to resist the temptation to hand over 200,000 baht for 6 months for a credit card...
This is the way

This thread reminds me of something that I’ve seen available in Europe recently, and that is pre-paid Visa cards.
It’s no good for anyone who needs actual credit, but it might offer a solution to those who need a credit card for paying for things online and the suchlike, and can’t or won’t get a Thai card.
You just buy the card with cash and load up value in the same way as a pre-paid mobile phone and then use it in the same way as a normal Visa card.
If you’re in Thailand, and need a credit card, you could perhaps either get one on a visit back home or even get one sent out by someone.
Some of them from major banks like the one from Lloyds can be topped up over the phone from your account apparently.
