Yeah, the prices have gone up and so has the crime!

Some say that there has been a rise in crime like burglaries or muggings but I haven't seen any actual statistics to back that up.

I have heard of home burglaries here ever since the first year I moved here (5 years ago) so I don't know if it has actually increased or not. If it has increased it may be more due to the building boom and influx of foreigners building nicer homes as well as the influx of poorer laborers from Issan and Burma than the economy.

Common sense would indicate a rise in crime in hard times anywhere but as I said, I haven't seen any statistics that prove that.

As far as prices go I haven't noticed any lowering of prices for anything in Hua Hin (in fact, they seem to continue to go up), but hotel room rates may be discounted now. I have found hotels in Bangkok discounted up to 50% in the last few months.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

The prices went up heavily all over Thailand last year due to a huge rise in fuel and food costs with inflation going up to nearly 10% mid-year, but now the rate is heading much lower so in theory prices should stabilize.
If that actually happens in a holiday resort like Hua Hin is another matter entirely!

Yeah, sure crime will have gone up but you'll never get any stats or admission of it from the cops or government. There is no chance of finding any figures that realistically reflect the reality. Maybe the stats are too embarrassing to make public and the reality is that they(cops) are swamped with a hopelessly crap clear-up rate because they can't be arsed to do their jobs. They may also simply be incapable of doing so, too much like work and could expose the fact that there thousands of policemen doing sweat FA all day apart from robbing motorists and going to fish bowls to drink whiskey and have a soapy "massage".

Publishing crime figures would be an act of a real/responsible police force operating in good faith to the public who it is supposed to serve.

Sure the police farce here will continue in it's recreational activities with fever.

As for prices, well, yeah, they have risen a lot as STEVE G said in the last year or so when the fuel costs went silly but have not receeded when the price of oil did, which is hardly surprising. No more of those days of 20-25 baht a glass of Singha/Chang draught in a bar/restaurant. :(

Absofukinlutely, builders prices increased due to building material suppliers increases. Not only did they not drop the price when oil went back down but 'some' of the desired building contractors (and they know they are desired/in-demand) are still demanding, not negotiating, increases every 6 months or so.

Friend's house on one of my developments got burgled last night while he is out of Hua Hin.
