I remember the incident in an old thread about Jaews bar, it took me a long time to go back, this was only because i was in company and they wanted to go, (2 were not drinking) ordered drinks and 1 of the non drinkers paid the tab - 480 baht. A few weeks later i am walking to Billys and out comes her ladyship and presents me with the same bill - i told her that it was paid and who had paid it - she replied "you never pay any bill" (anyone who drinks with me knows i am not shy to pay my turn!). Couldnt be bothered to argue with the witch ( besides you dont know if she called the thai blokes last time there was big problem there)and plonked 500 baht on the bar and told her that was the last baht she would see of mine. New years eve, our crowd went again - 2 of us went elsewhere while 4 others went in Jaews - 1 didnt need a drink and her worshipfulness was heard to be saying in thai to get this person out (this one is a close friend of mine). She is a nasty piece of work and not to be trusted in my humble opinion and well known as one who will never get a round in. There will be people out there for sure who love to drink in her bar and thats their perrogotive - just beware of bill padding and whatever else.

I think maybe the same as her english is very good. The money isnt the point just that she preys on merry customers and continues to get away with it. She for me is all that is bad in a bar owner. Harsh for sure but my dealings have led me to feel this.

ITN lunchtime news here in the UK has a phone in today - "Is Thailand safe for British tourists?"

It is definitely a talking point here.

For me Thailand is the safest place in the world I've ever visited and lived. Hundreds of times I've walked about worse for wear in the early hours of the morning, past groups of Thai blokes who only ever ignore me or say hello etc. Back home in London the same situation often leads to trouble.

It's tragic what happened to this poor girl, but I still feel Thailand is safe overall.

It is terrible that a young girl has been killed while here in Thailand. I hope the police start to turn a corner and make a very public showing of whoever did this, they really should take advantage of help from the UK police at least then they can save a little face for the country. Do they have the death penalty here in Thailand? Just to go a little off this particular topic - does anyone know what happenede to Tobys wife and other assailants, it seems to have gone very quiet.

The last i heard was that the policeman involved had his wrists slapped and was sacked from the force.

I would not hold my breath on the others as money can buy you out of anything, maybe after 2 years in jail they will pay a fee for release.

This way it looks to the public like justace has been served then when things go quiet they tend to get released.

If Thailand is so safe then i wonder how many tourists are murdered in Americe, Europe, or individual tourist countries.

It would be interesting to know the real facts, I never heard of many murders in Greece, Spain, France, or Germany.

Come to think of it, not many deaths reported in Vietnam which is one of the largest expanding tourist destinations.

The common thing here seems to be money related, also if people think they can easily escape justace then there is no deterrant.

Mike.

JW, dont you have any work to do, noticed you on here during the day.

I could do with a job like yours, any vacancies. :thumb:

[quote:2847d0f485="Jaime"]........ The question is, what can be done about it? :([/quote:2847d0f485]

Good stuff Jaime. I have to agree with you.

As for what can be done:

My understanding is that the TAT have been tasked with increasing tourism into Thailand which is it's largest earning cash industry sector. I do not want to bore everybody with the details of growing econamy but it is a fact that Thailand needs foreign cash. This task has been set by none other than Khun T himself.

It is the TAT who are responsible for worldwide marketing of Thailand's tourism market.

Based on the above, assuming it is correct, than I would think a very good first port of call would be the TAT themselves. This way there is less likelyhood of complaints and concerns going missing somewhere up the chain of command.

What started me thinking was the case of the Danish Guy in Cha Am whose brutal murder did not seem to hit neighbouring Hua Hin for about one week. In fact as far as I can make out, the first time any Thai media published the story was after a Danish/Asian publication posted it.

And then TAT will try to protect their industry and keep quiet.

I only hope that farang newspapers will see through this suppression of the truth and start writing about it.

Bar girl allegedly ‘added injury to insult’
To prevent or discourage incidents such as this "just a thought"
wether you are with female company or male and it looks like its going be a long term thing aquire a copy if their Thai ID card by what ever means..
If the unthinkable does happen there is at least a start for the authoraties to begin the search , at least 99.9 % of the Thai nation use a short nikname which will be common with about a 3rd of the rest of the population .The Id card caries their full family name and family home address, unless they have their own property which would make it even easier, without these they cannot get far so they will be holding one no doubt
you think you know them but you dont! & visa versa ..

That is bloody good advice! One of those things that seem so obvious now that someone else has told me!

Brazilian model missing in Thailand
Thursday Jan 5 17:22 AEDT
Thai police were searching for a missing Brazilian model separated from her friends two days ago and reportedly last seen boarding a ferry to the resort island of Samui with unidentified Thai men.

Samui is the same island where the body of a 21-year-old Welsh woman -- who police say was raped and beaten to death -- was found floating in the sea on Monday.

The Brazilian model, 22-year-old Talipa Rosini, was returning to Bangkok on Tuesday with a group of friends after visiting the island of Phanang in the Gulf of Thailand, police said.
