Interesting report on the state of Premier League clubs finances here.
Maybe shocking would be a better word though...

It's official, it's happened per BBC Sports UK Edition. The article states Wigan's first choice as replacement is Roberto Martinez but no where close to being official. Who is he? :( Pete

Martinez is the current manager of Swansea in the Championship.
He got them promoted the previous season and is one of a number of highly regarded young managers around at the moment.
Certainly a much better option for Wigan than bringing back Paul Jewell !

I also look at this link not just concerning Wigan. However, poor Wigan either built too large a stadium or doesn't have the local support. Pete

A lot in the news about Liverpool's finances as well. Basically they're just about able to service their debt, which means to me not much left for new players. Pete

Wigan were a non-league team for many years....up till about 35 years ago,I think.
**non-league is outside the top 4 divisions of the Football League.
I was born in Macclesfield and Wigan used to play them in what was called the Cheshire League.
They were voted in to the Football League but were in the bottom two tiers for a long time. They have only been a Premiership club for four seasons.
The owner,Dave Whelan, had the JJB Stadium built but it is rarely full.Wigan is traditionally a Rugby League town rather than a Soccer one.
But,all in all, they are doing pretty well. I think the phrase "punching above their weight" best describes them.

Liverpools finances are pretty bad but equally so are those of Manchester United,Chelsea and,to a lesser degree,Arsenal.
It will be interesting to see what happens.Maybe in a couple of years it could be a multi-rich team like Manchester City being the dominant side with clubs that have been prudent with their finances, such as Aston Villa or Everton also laying claim to a top 4 position.

The previous season Swansea won the league easy and played some great football under Martinez. I think he is a quality manager and is a fantastic catch for Wigan (he used to play for Wigan too). It should be tied up when DW is back from his jollies on Wednesday.

Bruce is a good Manager too and should do well at Sunderland... can't understand why Newcastle never went for him....and Shearer lol he has no tatical sense so if he stays with the Geordies they will struggle :|

It would be a step down for Torres 8) Liverpool are on the rise and Fergi will retire soon then ManUre will be in decline (we hope)

Cracking hatrick for Torres against the mighty New Zealand football team :|

The new fixtures are due out on Wednesday (about 4pm in Thailand) if anyone is interested. I have heard from an 'in the know' guy on a West Ham forum that West Ham are away at Chelsea 1st game and play Bolton last game of the season - he has been right for the last two seasons, but has anyone else heard any others (of any team)?

Talking of fixtues, here's an interesting article courtesy of the beeb as to how they are worked out. They've been sorted for some time, so its possible anyone with connections to a club or the FA et all, will get to know.
