News Towers for Hua Hin

Post by JD »

I've heard that the Municipality is about to start up some 15 News Towers in Hua Hin.

Those that live in some of the smaller Villages around Hua Hin may already have experience of them. They are used to report all the local Municipality News and Events and are done by use of a very loud megaphone system. They seem to start up at any time of the morning or evening and can go on for over an hour.

It has been decided that the towers within the Hua Hin area should be repaired and come back 'online' by mid July. The Municipality have asked that no damage is done to the towers and that they are Government buildings.

Some towers are within residential areas, the Municipality has asked for residents understanding, especially from foreign residents and that this style of news broadcasting is within the Municipality Law.

I'm sure that'll please the residents in the leafy suburbs - being blasted with government propaganda at 120dB at six in the morning!

I hear they employ similar broadcast systems in North Korea.

They used to do this years ago - the loudspeakers where on telegraph and electric poles..broadcasts from the Taesabaan interspersed with tinny, screechy music shattering the calm of morning.

The Thai's liked it - they like noise in case you hadn't noticed...

One or two of them did have misterious 'accidents' - the speakers that is - not the locals.

Once upon the time, long time ago, there was one of these morning screamers in one's moban. Then, unexpectedly,
and, I am sure, quite by accident, the cables leading to the loudspeaker were ripped. This unfortunate accident
kept on recurring so many times that at the end the cables were not replaced.

The silence reigned supremely, and all the good people of moban lived happily ever after, or, at least,
until the next repair the accidental cable ripping.

It is to be expected that the accident shall commence anew.

We've got one next to our house in Issan and whilst it's not too bad generally, the all night village kaoroke contest is one to plan to be away for!

Best news of all for Sandman is that there is one very close to his Beloveds establishment! Unless of course someone has accidentally broken it in the process of refurbishing a certain old building on the corner.

They had them where I used to live .They allowed farangs to read news in English and play a few records and you could pay for jingles mixed up with a bit of humour and harmless gossip, local news etc. Made it more sufferable .Perhaps such an idea could be presented to the right people .If the person in charge is a bit conservative then have a bi-lingual Thai doing it .

Just an idea and probably a better one than cutting the wires in the middle of the national anthem

What works better than cutting the wire is to push a pin through the wire and cut off the surplus. It will short out the speaker and make it useless and much more difficult to find and repair than a cut wire.

Not that I condone destroying gov't property but adjusting the volume to something you can tolerate seems acceptable.

When you look at the snakes-nest of cables on the average Thai telegraph pole, it might be a bit of a lottery deciding where to stick the pin!
