Eating out on a budget.

Post by margaretcarnes »

Just looking again at Uncle Toms original post, and his comment about nothing much under 100 baht earlier this year.
Yes the exchange rate did suffer a lot around that time. But last October to December it wasn't brilliant either. We were there Oct to Dec and found the Bird Chilli restaurant on the Night Market had some very good meals for 100 or less, and very good quality and service. Went back there several times (as well as to the nearby Railway which is also good) and never had a bad meal.
But price wise a lot depends on how much, and how often, you eat! For me a main course in a restaurant like Bird Chilli, or the Railway, is enough. But if you want a pudd as well the price can easily reach 150 or more.
Maybe we should also be considering the number of meals a person needs in a day to get a better idea of HH costs? I can get by on a decent breakfast for example and not need another meal until 8 or 9 at night. So could easily eat well on 250 a day in HH. Men tend to eat more, and maybe more often, so food costs are inevitably going to rock up.
A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
