I don't know, but that word "junket" brings back memories. I remember when a small boy my Mom serving a dessert that she said was junket. Kind of like a pudding. Is it used for that as well? Pete

Yes I think Junket was the traditional English pudding many moons ago, and Renet the setting agent. Probably still available over here from specialist stores, but in HH?
Strangely though I could see it still being used in some desserts there, maybe more in Chinese style cooking, so it could well be one of those mysterious mounds or blocks of substance in the market hall. The problem is finding the Thai translation.
Try googling for info on the source of Renet - what it is derived from - and it may then be easier to translate.
Or pop into Bookazine and browse the English 'home style' cookery book indexes.

When I moved to the east coast of the states I could no longer find a cut of meat that I liked from butchers. It seems that different places cut per their customs. I was baffled, but started asking every restaurant I knew. It took a year, but I found the equivalent.

Perhaps see if you can get into a couple of the big kitchens, maybe Hilton, etc. and ask the chefs?

By the way Harry B - would gelatine do the job instead? You might find that more easily. Theres a good shop on Petkasem just North of the wet market, and on the same side of the road. They sell flours, cake tins, and all sorts of baking stuff.

I used this lovely Sunday morning to surf around a bit, intrigued by Junket Rennet tablets. Actually quite a few people ask for it but it seems they are not sold in Thailand.

So two alternatives:

Order it from the internet.
Seen on junketdesserts.com

Or make rennet yourself, check this out.

There is a major producer and world-wide exporter of Rennet in Denmark. I don't know if they sell small quantities, but you might give it a try.

I saw where rennet is also used in making cheese.

Have you had any luck in finding it? And, out of curiosity, what are you going to use it for?
