Like everything else in this country, the original concept of having a PPV, has been twisted around away from its purpose, and then taken advantage of by a limited group in the market.

The original purpose was to allow, mostly the rural market, to have a vehicle that was primarily an agriculture tool, adapted so that those people had a access to a "multi use", reasonable alternative to a pure pick-up truck type of transport.

There is no way that a Ford Everest, MU-7 or Fortuner, is, or ever will be, a PPV. While I do not necessarily agree with some of the high tax rates imposed here, I do have to agree with the reasoning behind this move.

As I understood things, the whole point of the PPV category was to promote locally assembled vehicles by giving them a price advantage over imported models.
If you do away with that concept you are just promoting the opposition and what help is that to the economy.

What imported vehicles, Steve? There is no imported vehicle that competes with the locally manufactured pick up truck. Originally, when this first started, it was after market operators converting locally manufactured pick ups by fitting rear canopies and seats, and the manufacturing companies cried fowl, which resulted in the PPV category.
