Another Norwegian

Post by Gunnar »

Hi everybody.
My name is Gunnar, and I am from Sandnes in Norway.
I am on my way to Hua Hin to by myself a house.
There is a nice house in Soi 94 that I will have a look at this August.

There are of course tonns of questions, but I will post them later on.

Just one quick question here.

How is life in Hua Hin?
I have read a lot of positive article here in the forum, but also a lot of negative articles.

Thanks for keeping me updated

Just one quick question there

Why would you buy a house in Hua Hin if you have not lived there ? Why not rent first ?

I have been in and out of Thailand for many years.
First trip to Thailand was back in 1977.
Sinze than it has been the minimum of one trip every year.
I think I know Thailand very well.

Never been to Hua Hin, and my humble questions was:
HOW IS HUA HIN ?

See ya

I have been living in Bangkok for 6 months and UK for 6 months for each of the past 3 years. I have visited Hua Hin many times for short breaks and found it very quiet for me. This winter I will stay in Hua Hin for 6 months as a trial to see if I like it.

I know Thailand well and been to many other places but I wouldn't buy a house anywhere until I had lived ther for months/years.

Renting gives you the opportunity to get to know the place ie. different areas, what you need in a home, what the locals are like.

Excuse my language, but how can anyone be so fucking stupid even considering buying a house in a place you have never been to ? From a developer you have never met ? Nice pictures on the internet ? How do you decide if the price you are quoted are the right one, if you do not know the market ? We are all looking forward to your posters in the future asking how the courtsystem is working, where to find a good lawyer aso. Get real and rent first.
To our norwegian friends, could we not agree on keeping the main forum-posts in English. Especially when the subjects of your posts are of no interest whatsoever for anyone not being norwegian, like the wheather in different provinces in Norway, the creation of a Norwegian club. I know it will come as a big surprise to our friends from the northwestern Scandi-navia: NORWAY IS NOT THE CENTRE OF THE WORLD. Please use the Nordic Section of this forum.

thaiorchid,
If the mods feel that posts or threads are better suited to another forum, we will either move them or politely point out to the poster where they are likely to get the best response.
If you have a problem with where posts are going, you can always PM a mod or put your view in suggestions.
I really don't think it's your place to direct any nationality to a specific area of the board. Thanks :thumb:

Well. I guess i managed to step on a few toes. That was not really my intention. Maybe sometimes I sound more harsh intended, because english is not my native tongue.
loverboy44
When commenting on the language, I was reffering to a thread called "Seafood in HH" were Gunnar wrote: "Hvilken seafood restaurant er den beste i HH ?" (Wales ?)
lomuamart
You are absolutely right, it is not up to me to decide which threads to put where. On the other hand if we all started to write in our own languages, I think the forum would lose its appeal to many readers. Like the thread
"Litt forskjellig...." which is about a club for Norwegians. IMHO.
Gunnar.
First of all, if I offended you, I am sorry.
Most people who end up cheated in their real-estate buying here, are cheated by people from their own country. That is whatever it comes to clear scams or substandard constructions. So before you make any commitments or sign any papers, or even worse pay any money, I think you should check how far out in the pinapplefield the project is located.
What is the watersituation ? So even with everything in and around the project being from the old country, be careful. After all they are in the business to make money. If you have read some of the property threads on this forum, you will know what I am talking about.
Apart from that, I think you have made a good choice in HH, despite me living here ! Been here 7 good years.

The project I am referring to is University Garden 4, located in SOI 94, 2km from center and 2km from the beach.

The developer is Thailiving.no
