Do you think these suits are fair or not?

Yes, it's fair for all. Technology is a fact in sport today.

Swimming Suits

Post by Spitfire »

Well, it's becoming a bit of a farce with the swimming championships going on at the moment.

Phelps is beaten today by some guy that's wearing a more modern swim suit than he is. Can't remember her name but the woman's champ refuses to wear a suit at the championships.

There are so many world records being broken at the moment that there will be none broken at 2012 min London as these swimming suits are not going to be banned until the end of 2009.

These are the championships that mean nothing. I think they should have grown a spine and banned them before the world championships took place.

There is of course the point that the rules are still level for all and that technically it makes no difference as anyone can wear any suit, especially if they all wear the same suit.

What should happen?
Added a poll as well but feel free to comment.

They can't change it now its too late. They should have acted sooner if they were to ban all new swim suites.

Bloody hell its only a piece of cloth its not like swimmers are having a third leg grafted on...! (no jokes please...lol)

The records that were set using the new suite will never be broken if they ban them now and if they pre-date the ban over half of the Beijing gold swinning medals will have to be handed back...

Once again our fine upstanding British sportsmen and women (ok and Michael Phelps) not lowering themselves to the devious levels of Johnny Foreigner.

Looks like I'm the only one that's voted 'No' so far.

I just think that with a sport like swimming it should be down to technique and physique. To make it completely fair everyone should wear the same body covering.

When it comes to sports with equipment (or engines) then advances in technology should be allowed.

I would equate the swimming suits to spiked shoes for the runners really; they used to run barefoot on cinder tracks, so why all the drama about the swimmers? Football used to be played with heavy leather balls that soaked up water and boots that weighed a ton, and many sports have had technology aided changes of equipment so why swimming should be any different I don't know. As long as there is a level playing field in that all have the same options available I don't see what the problem is.

I'm currently watching the Swimming Championsips, and they've been discussing the suits. It seems that a lot of the swimmers are bound by their sponsors regarding what they wear, so they can't compete on a level playing field. However, it seems that after the current championships, new legislation will restrict the wearing of these new suits.

Ban all suits!
Could than introduce white pointer and winged keel contests (might have to ensure that the shallow end is not too shallow.
The breast stroke would be well worth the effort of viewing otherwise - beua mak mak!
