Also loved BaaBaa's pic of the three wheeler on bricks and no wheels in Thailand,

You can take the scouser out of Liverpool, but cannot take Liverpool habits out of the scouser (no matter where he is in the world).

Alex Ferguson April 2009 "Irrespective of what Rafa Benitez says, Everton are a big club. He called them a small club, which just points to his arrogance."

Alex Ferguson July 2009 "It's City isn't it? They are a small club with a small mentality. All they can talk about is Manchester United. They can't get away from it.They think taking Tevez away from Manchester United is a triumph. It is poor stuff." Image

I get very tired of fans and newly transfered players gobbing off on what their team will do and how they are going to finish above this or that team. Maybe it would be a good idea to put all the predictions on to a separate thread then publish it at the end of the season, then we would see the stupidity of "experts".
On a separate issue how can you expect overseas players to be loyal to any club and not move for money when it was money that brought them to the Premiership in the first place. It is just bo**ocks to claim to be moving to win things, or "fings" in the case of Ashley Cole. As for managers slagging off one another, just concentrate on your own teams.

To a degree Arcadian, I agree with you, but some foriegn players do last the course and so subscribe to the loyalty ticket.

At Chelsea, its not the players that rotate and yes, they are some of the most highly paid anywhere....

To be honest, if a player wants to move on, they can, whatever their nationality. Did the Mancs get good service from Ronaldo? I'd say they did, just as the many foriegn players have given elsewhere.

'Though I regret Cudicini being allowed to go to Spurs on a free (loyalty), guess he's regretting that now as well?

I remember this guy doing the rounds of the hospitaility suites at the Bridge during home games when he wasn't even in the squad! I think this report is harsh on him by the way, he was a very good player.

Silly question for most of you probably but I'm confused. There's British show on here where the commentator goes back in history and highlights the careers of great Premier League players.

He continuously makes reference to the " number 7" i.e., he's a #7, he could be a #7, he was the best #7.... What is the significance? Is that the number a top striker usually wears? Pete

The number a player wore related to the position they played. Nowadays, squads are huge and I think players get their own number.
So, a goalkeeper was No.1, Centre forward No.9 ,Right Wing No.7, Left Wing No 11 etc etc.
If I remember correctly, formations in those days were:
Goalie, 2 fullbacks, 3 midfield and 5 strikers. (Na, that can't be right? Someone will correct me).
When you heard someone saying that about a No7, they meant right winger. However, the numbers players wear don't correspond to positions these days, but commentators still occasionally use the old expressions.
Hope that hasn't confused you.

The formation was goalkeeper, 2 full backs who rarely went over the halfway line, 3 halfbacks mainly defensive (kick everything that moved until it stopped moving, see Billy Bremner, Norman Hunter, Nobby Stiles), 5 forwards who lined up in a "W" formation, 2 attacking wingers who crossed the ball for the centre forward to head in, bundle in together with the goalkeeper, and 2 inside forwards who were the playmakers, Ah the good old days.

Toure completes Man City switch

Post by Tony_S »

Manchester City have signed central defender Kolo Toure from Arsenal for a reported £16m on a four-year contract.

I wonder who Arsenal will spend their 41 million on :?

Man City seem to be putting together a quality team.....in another couple of years they will be challenging for the title :guns:

As an Arsenal fan I regret to see Kolo Toure go, while I could not wait for Arsenal to get rid of the lazy Adebayor. One up and one down!

Not sure about that. Having a lot of good players doesn't always mean you have a good team. It will all depend on whether Mark Hughes can create harmony and a good team spirit among all the players.

I also am an Arsenal fan, I read this week that Arsene Wenger subscribes to a video recording service that analyses every players every move. As a central defender one of Toure`s main jobs was to deal with airial threats and he only had a 44% success rate being only 6ft tall. Wenger knows his team better than any pundit and I hope he comes through without all the fair weather, spotty~faced fair weather so~called fans calling for him to go. 4 years without a trophy? What about the real fans of Newcastle, Leeds and many other clubs, they would love to be in Arsenal`s position
