Drive to Phuket?

Post by migrant »

Saw some old posts, but couldn't find anything on the drive from HH to Phuket.

Any suggested stops?

Is their a ferry for the car?

Thanks

There is a bridge connecting Phuket with the mainland. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is a checkpoint when entering Phuket that resembles an international border crossing with booths and offices and a lot of uniforms around. Most of the time they take the checking quite seriously here. So double check you got all the required paperwork (valid driver's license, insurance etc.) with you.

The quick route is to go from 41 to 44 to 1002 to 402. Scenic route would be 41 to 401 to 415 to 4 and the really scenic route would be 41 to 4 at Chupon and then 402.

It is a good idea to tank up every once in a while. There sometimes is a long way between the service stations.

We always make it a two day drive, leave mid morning and a four hour drive to Ranong and stay the night in one of the natural hot springs hotels and then leave mid morning after another dip and a four hour drive down the coast road to Phuket stopping for lunch on the way by the beach somewhere. Beautiful scenery.

It's a good 8 hour drive. 5 hours directly south to Sura Thani, and then turn right after the airport. 2.5 hours later, (& the most scenic part of the drive) you cross the bridge. Phuket town, about 45 minutes to an hour further on
Plenty of fuel stops on the way.

Nice drive!!

Thanks All!! :thumb:

I told my wife I'd like to drive it for the scenery. Sounds like a nice drive and at 8 hours, not so bad.
