Bar girls are sensible as are most women who sell their body for gain

How many men do you know who can claim the same?

At the end of the day it is about personality and ability to harmonise with a partner that counts. Doesnt mean you have to agree on everything but have the ability to communicate and discuss issues

Even now there are still some hotels here in Thailand that are reluctant to let you book in if your Thai wife is with you.
I must say that in 5 years living here and traveling around the country staying in hotels, as well as in 9 years before that visiting Thailand with my wife, I have never run into this problem.

... and she is 21 years younger than me and looks ten years younger than she is and has always used her Thai ID checking in at hotels here (which is in her maiden name). We have stayed in everything from fleabag places in the provinces to luxury hotels in Bangkok, never having experienced the issue of this thread. :? :? :?

Unfortunately there's still a lot of prejudice around on many subjects in all countries but this should not be elevated to the level of generalisations of all in order to pigeon hole people at a glance.

Sometimes you see it and sometimes not (not everyone is guilty of doing it), not just on this subject but many others too. Those that are shallow enough to involve themselves in perpetuating these preconceived images/conclusions only expose their small minded ineptitude.

This sort of behaviour is still rife in Asia and will be for sometime to come. The problem lies within the culture's set-up/attitude and the disdain for anything that is outside of "normal" cultural parameters as it represents a threat or "the unknown". It is hard for many to accept that "The times they are a'changing" and that the future holds much that is socially different to what can be seen now. It wasn't that long ago that women in the villages didn't wear shirts and children were told that westerners eat babies.

Cultural change and acceptance of modern life situations/relationships is so slow that reality outstrips it at a stunning rate which is probably why we get this sort of friction, ie basically because of a lack of comprehension of peoples social realities, due to many living in ivory towers/glass houses etc that cannot/will not leave a predetermined comfort zone.

OK........ stop my .......could go on but.........won't.

Don't think this is an Asian thing at all. Actually it is quite universal. How do most people in the west judge a marriage between a 60+ female (ex) moviestar and her 25-year old new husband? What do we think of the tennisplayer/millionaire who with his looks would have trouble dating women but now shows of with a fancy catwalk model. This is exactly how most Thais look at a farang-Thai relationship. From the Thai side it is primarily financially motivated despite many farangs trying to convince others and more importantly themselves that in their case it is not. We know it (although many try to deny it) and the Thais know it. Not a matter of prejudice or cultural setup or anything like that.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

 agree totally and would add - if you were in your own country, booked into a hotel then went out at night, picked up a prostitute and took her back to your hotel, the hotel is not going to treat that as normal behavior, so why think anything less of Thais for thinking the same. Of course the cheaper the joint, no matter what country, the more tolerant the hotel will be to immoral behavior.

I'm not saying taking prostitutes half your age back to your hotel is wrong, just don't expect others to think its normal!

I should add most people can detect the difference between a prostitute / client relationship and a long term relationship couple.

So how many prostitutes suffer from being ripped off by clients who try to chisel or abuse the position in other ways? Every part of society is made up of the good, the bad and the ugly. Who would you trust more - a bar girl or a politician (say UK or Thai for example)? I think that I would go for the bar girl.

Me too. I can only speak from personal experience and know I'm generalising somewhat, but politicians are a crap shag.

What are Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Perle etc. I'll take the bargirl as a better risk that one of those lying bastards. In Australia an ex minister was recently jailed for taking a bribe. What about bargirl versus catholic priest? What about bargirl versus the management of Freddie Mac, Fanny Mae, Lehman Bros etc? More harm has been done to more people by these crooks and their fat bonuses than has been done by prostitutes since the dawn of time. But surely crooks in suites who are members of respectable clubs and churches cannot be compared witrh girls who provide an honest service for a living where most times the customer is satisfied with the services rendered? The girls are honest in promoting their services, 2008 has shown that Wall St. investment bankers were not. I would prefer to have a f*%$ with a hooker than to be f*%$ed over by an investment banker.

Don't forget Pelosi, Frank, Reid, Biden and Obama... politicians are all the same (dishonest, lying, self-centered, elite bastards) no matter what party they are from... :D
