BBC Connection
BBC Connection
I usually go to BBC News first thing each day and have had no trouble with a fast connection, however over the past 3 weeks it has become very much slower, although other site connections are OK.
Are others experiencing this?
I have found very little difference between Firefox or Internet Explorer 8

I'm also experiencing a slow, sometimes very slow, connection to the BBC website. I often have to refresh the page before it has finished loading as it appears to hang when approx 90% loaded.

It seems like Thailand's internet providers are having their monthly period (excuse the pun) of DNS problems where some international sites are slow. Sending mail via SMTP is also very painful at the moment.

In the event of DNS problems, just use OpenDNS (which also serves as an excellent family internet filter if you set it up right).
Libraries gave us power, then work came and made us free. What price now for a shallow piece of dignity?

I tried that but found I could not access any sites. I called the Maxnet call centre and they told me to change back to the original settings. Is this a problem I created or is Maxnet blocking some functions?SuperTonic wrote:In the event of DNS problems, just use OpenDNS (which also serves as an excellent family internet filter if you set it up right).

Well I've been using it in Windows and Linux on a variety of connections here in Thailand without problems, which probably means you made a typo somewhere in the settings.

Apologies for raising this subject again but I am still having problems loading .co.uk websites. Usually they will load but take ages - non-uk websites load normally. Is this a problem that can be overcome or am I stuck because I use Maxnet?
Any help would be appreciated.

Maxnet are terrible, the only way to get around their constant DNS problems is to use OpenDNS as suggested (or another provider!)

OK Buksida - but there seems more to this.
Up comes a questions asking if you wish to deal with Computer, Router or DNS Server - which one does one click?
If you choose Router ( it sais best for home users) then up comes 17 types of Router and if ones Router does not appear etc etc etc
This does not seem to be easy for the non- specialist IT person - can you lead us through the procedure please?

PET, where is this 'question'?
I can only imagine the problem is with the DNS as its only Maxnet users that are experiencing it (as gleaned from this and other threads).

Buksi - I think he is referring to the question on the opening page of the OpenDNS site.
PET - I chose "Computer" and had no problems. I now have the OpenDNS as my alternative settting as when I use them as primary and alternative I can get no websites. As I said previously, I think Maxnet is aware of OpenDNS and is blocking its use.
Any other theories?
