Very Thai
Very Thai written by Philip Cornwel-Smith, is a exellent book about Thai popular culture.
This book holds most of the answers to questions about all the small things we see around us, that make us wonder, why do Thais do it the way they do it ? Why do the weekdays have different colours? Why the wawing cat outside shops and restaurants ? Does Bhudda really like red Fanta ? Is it okey to buy sacred offerings at Tesco ? Why is nine a lek mongkhon (auspicious number) ? ASO ASO.
If you are the slightest interested in your new country, this very well researched book is a goldmine. It is not a promotion of the LOS, just a explanation, makes it a little easier to understand the Thai mindset. Even for us with Thai wives or GFs, it comes very handy, because as we are aware of, we will always get an answer from madame, whether she knows anything about it or not !!
So if you have not got Very Thai already, treat yourself to a copy. Or give as a present to someone new here.
I am not a agent for PC-S (wish I was), it is just a very good book.
I bought my copy a couple of years back for about 800-900 baht.
BTW some very good photography as well.

Very Thai
Does it explain how they have strange taste buds? I was in McDonalds last month (yes I know, but where I live is a McDonalds, Burgerking, Pizza Hut and Starbucks free country, so I`m allowed), anyway, this Thai lady was taking alternate mouthfulls of ice cream and cheese covered chips, ugh!

I'm afraid chips'n cheese is quite popular these days in little old UK.
Anyway thanks very much for that book info Thaiorchid - do you have the ISBN number please? It will make ordering so much easier here!

A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.
Well, does he? That age old question keeps me awake nights wondering!Does Bhudda really like red Fanta ?

And why the hell not? I have a full bar and a big screen TV in mine! But we don't have a coffee table in our toilet

My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

In our house Buddha eats everything, especially if a chair is left nearby his shelf, and the dog is around.margaretcarnes wrote:Tsk Tsk! Of course Buddha likes red Fanta - he drinks it doesn't he?
First time it happened was fun

ahh yes......but he needs a drop of something warming when he's on our side of the Atlantic
"Very Thai" I remember reading a review of that when it came out. (around 2 years ago?) I got the impression it only contained photographs
Thanks for the correct information.
Does it tell you what traffic policemen's whistles are for?
Or why there is one member of staff ,for every item of stock in Home Pro?
