holiday location advice

Post by Rusky »

Hi
I need some help in choosing a location for our 5 day trip to Hua Hin at the end of a long trip.

I really am unsure where to start. I see that there are different beaches around Hua Hin.

I need somewhere we can walk on the beach and walk to restaurants and shops.

I hope you guys can help then I can look properly at the accommodation booking site and the accommodation forum.

SO is Hua Hin the place to stay or Cha am? I am totally confused.

Lots on this around the site. But my tuppence worth is: assuming its the end of of a long trip, as you say, you'll be looking for rest & relaxation. You need to go to the Sofitel. It is a fantastic hotel, beautiful grounds, right on the beach and easy walking to all shops, markets, restaurants. There are several other great hotels along the beach, but it'll be a longer walk or tuktuk to get into Hua Hin. From the Sofitel, everything is on your doorstep.

Oh, and don't go to Cha-am.

Agreed, Cha Am is to far off,
The Hilton and Sofitel are good choices, In the middle of the Town, near to the Beach, Near to restaurants and other Entertainment

The sofitel is fabulous, but expensive but worth it. We have stayed there twice, but have gone a less espensive route the last couple of times. The City Beach is decent, and last time we stayed across the street from the the City Beach as the CB was full (november 2005).

When are you coming? It makes a big difference. You want to be in the immedaite City beach/Soffitel area. There are a lot of choices--depends on your budget and what you want to do. The ones that advertise here are all pretty good.

I'll also weight on in prefering HH to Ch-M.

Yes Hua Hin is the place. Better town and more pleasant surroundings. For peace and quiet and relaxation (i.e. not being pestered by beach vendors) then you may have to get in a Taxi and travel south a little.

As for hotels you need to specify a budget. Both the above mentioned hotels are extremely expensive to Hua Hin standards.

There are plenty of clean friendly guest houses and small hotels at 20% of the price.

Agreed Cha Am is not the sort of place you need to be staying after any sort of journey,,,
And also you can book your Hua Hin hotel on line via Hua Hin Afterdark how convenient

Thanks for the help. I probably am looking for something cheaper than the sofitel, I read a report where it was compared to the Rasa Sayang in Penang (a Shangri la hotel currently under renovation) we don't need that posh :D It does look beautiful though *sigh*

We will be there at the end of July/ early August.

I would like beach and I thought maybe there would be places like we found in Ko Samui but I think the large hotel groups seem to take up the Hua hin beach front?

So what we need will be close to the beach, I looked at the Peony Hua Hin hotel, city beach resort and another I forget but the prices were more favourable.

We are touring round Cambodia and Vietnam, we end in Bangkok and have a couple of days there before getting a bus to Hua Hin.

When I first came to HH, I stayed in expensive. The Hilton before it was the Hilton and family stayed in the Sofitel.

All v. good, but soon worked out it wasn't worth it - well the Sofitel is. But expensive.

Ita an outdoor type of place. Try the ppvilla. I hate giving this out, but it was recommended to me by others and I can't think of better VFM. Go for a balcony room and you're well back from the street. Good size rooms and pool. Simple, clean and comfortable, no mini-bar, but an empty fridge, big enough to store fruit, beer, wine etc. Otherwise no frills and all the better for it.

I hate myself for doing this.

Forgot to mention, you're on the road heading to the beach - turn right as you leave the hotel and its 3 minutes walk and you're in the centre of town.

Rusky,

Why don't you have a look on the net for prices in the Sofitel's sister place called the 'Sofitel Central Village' and when we stayed there was about half the cost of the main Sofitel hotel.
It's basically upmarket 'beach type' bungalows (detached obviously) set in grounds leading down to the sand of the beach.
It's just across the road from Sofitel main hotel, its got it's own pool and restaurant, but the good thing is you can use all the facilities of the main Sofitel (although I find the clientelle in there a bit aloof etc).

Might be a bit more expensive than the City Beach, but well worth the extra to be virtually on the beach and not have people making noise through the wall of your hotel room etc.

For value around town and walking distance to everywhere I would recommend PP Villa approx 1400bt Hua Hin Suites apprrox 2200 bt Jed Pee Nong approx 1400 bt Tanawit 1500bt, Fresh Inn 1800bt. All these have pools (some bigger than others) and all are guest freindly.
The larger places such as Hilton, Sofitel, etc are nice enough but seem a bit impersonal and are not good value when you compare to what else is on offer.
Prices sugested will vary according to season ( a little dearer during the peak and cheaper during the off season). Hope this helps and have a great stay.

No trouble, just had an influx of people singing the praises of this place, we were starting to wonder why.
