Hi there guys I'd snapped this up from "Bangers Post"

Asean Summit moved from Phuket

The venue for the October Asean Summit has been moved from Phuket to Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Cha-am in Phetchaburi for security reasons, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said in a telephone interview from Malaysia on Friday.

Mr Kasit is attending a meeting in Sabah, Malaysia, of the joint Thai-Malaysian committee on bilateral cooperation..

He said the Asean Summit was scheduled for Oct 23 to 25.

During that period the highly popular annual vegetarian festival would be held in Phuket and it would not be appropriate to impose the special security law in the island province, because it would damp the tourist atmosphere.

The Internal Security Act was promulgated in Phuket and off-shore areas from July 10 to 24 for the meeting of Asean foreign ministers and dialogue partners.

The minister said it would be necessary to impose the security law again during the October Asean forum and forbid gatherings near the summit venue.

The Asean Summit was originally organised in Pattaya, Chon Buri, on April 11-13, but dissolved in chaos after red-shirted protesters broke through a police cordon into the hotel which was the meeting venue. Visiting leaders had to be evacuated by helicopter and by boat.

The understudy's skool of thought:
Boy who would have thought following the ASEAN Summit ealrier this year will be followed by another Meeting in October This Time could be ASEAN + 3 and ASEAN + 6 Meeitng which was originally scheduled in Patts but was canceled cause of some "Insane in the Membrane Insane in the brain" red shirters. any thoughts Y'all HHAD Borthers & sisters!!!

The way they mention Cha-am it seems probable they'll use the same venue as last time. It was the Dusit wasn't it?

Also good to see it's all over before Loy Kratong which I think falls early this year, around Nov. 1 or 2? Pete

Should be good for the area during these economic hard times but I guess an inconveince for the locals and ex-pats. It also means a vote of confidence for Hua Hin.

The governor of Phuket doesn't seem to be convinced of the move yet...

"PHUKET CITY: -- Thailand is considering moving the 'Asean plus three summit' scheduled for October from Phuket to the resort town of Hua Hin in Prachuab Khiri Khan province, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva confirmed yesterday.

Leaders from ten Asean member states, plus South Korea, Japan and China, were tentatively scheduled to meet in Phuket from October 19 to 22.

However, some countries that attended the Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Phuket last month complained of inconveniences while meeting in Phuket, it has been reported.

Representatives of those countries suggested moving the summit from Phuket to Hua Hin.

Hua Hin was the venue of the last Asean summit held in late February.

However, Phuket Governor Wichai Phraisa-ngop told a press conference at Phuket International Airport yesterday that he was confident Phuket would host the high-profile event.

He discussed the matter with Prime Minister Abhisit during his recent visit to the capital, he told reporters. "
