Reliablility of water from the City Water Dept

Post by Dawebo »

Hi

I live in a small development of 10 houses and we are not yet connected for water. We all truck water in by tank at present. Right now we are considering the pros and cons of drilling a well versus getting connected to the city water system.

One concern about getting connected to the city water mains is that we have heard that there are interruptions of supply. We are based in Soi 114 near to the base of the hills.

I would like to hear from anyone living in any developments around Soi 112-116 who are connected to the city water supply. I would like to know how often there is an interruption of supply and how long the interruption usually lasts.

Many thanks in advance.

Either or you will be faced with difficulties which need to be solved.

Well water in this area tend to be very hard and will need proper filtering and softener systems. Further, during the dry season there could be a risk that the well is drying up but in any case the water tend to get even harder during that period. Well water, if not filtered and softened, is neither suitable for your garden nor for the swimming pool. In addition you would probably need a pressure tank for your booster pump.

The water shortages from the city water could be solved by installing a buffer tank and a good pump with a pressure tank.

Dawebo,

I have lived on the west side of Petchkasem road between soi 114 and soi 116 for over three years. Early on (the first year or year and a half) the water supply was a bit inconsistent, but not too bad. I had to order a water truck to fill my tanks four or five times during the dry season.

Now, I notice the water off occasionally but usually never more than 6 or 8 hours and not often. I haven't had to have any water trucked in but maybe once in the last year and I have a rai and a half garden that has to be watered every day, so I use a lot of water.

Also, I have two underground tanks so that when the water is off for a few hours, I still have enough stored to get through the outage (which may indicate that it is off more than I know, but my storage took care of it).

I think it would come down to cost. Is the city going to charge you for running water to your development? If not, that is the way I would go. If so, is the charge equal to drilling a well?

My water bill averages between 1000 and 2000 baht per month (water is not expensive, I just use a lot) so unless you need a lot of water or have a tiny storage tank, I don't think city water would be a problem for you.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
