Were you on the road, pavement, car park or in a Khlong when you were booked?

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.
I've been driving in Thailand for over six years now (mostky in Bkk, but also throughout the country) and have had to fork over tea money twice. It happens sure, but not as often as you'd think, and it's no biggie...everyone is smiley and you might be out a few quid/bucks. Chalk it up to experience, and it makes for a good yarn when you get home.

ive only paid if i had commited a offence, would never and have never paid for the sake of it.too many do and if you ask for a reciept ive often been told to just go,even in bkk ,if you have a thai liceince and insurance why give 200-400 baht for nothing.thats the reason they pull lots of farangs easy money
A few years back I was stopped outside of Phillip's bar, for riding a bike without a helmet. I did not have a license, and to my surprise I was told to go in the bar and have a beer. I then noticed that the Thais who were stopped were sent to the police station, and the 6 policemen kept coming inside to refresh themselves from a table full of beer. I also noticed that a couple of other Farangs who were stopped were given the same insttruction as myself. So after I bought a round of beers for the nice police, I was told I could take my bike home to pick up my helmet - only in Thailand!

Precisely, but we are expected to be in awe of these tales of compliance.
How many of you 'Western' transgressors would ride around, in your own country, without a helmet?
No license in my country means no insurance - a very responsible attitude.
It's time you 'clever dicks' excercised some degree of responsibility and stopped telling everyone how clever you were to wave a 500baht note around and be allowed to carry on with your childish behaviour.
nanyang,
My friend thought he could ride a bike on an International/European licence. He didn't know that there was no tax sticker until the fact was pointed out. It's his wife's bike, so a quick conversation between his missus and the copper seemed to sort that out - after all, the bike couldn't have belonged to my farang friend. Could it?
Basically, he messed up in a small way and got fined, as loads of 10 year old girls whizzed around without helmets or any regard for the basic traffic laws.
Give me a break.

I don't see any note of bragging, simply answering the OP's post.
In fact a few answers stated they were in the wrong and deserved the fine (here and in the other similar thread regarding bribes in Thailand).
Been stopped twice. First in the Pranburi area, I didn't have my license on me (dumb but not a requirement in the UK). Mr. Policeman was looking very stern, but my wife did the talking and we were waved on with a reminder to carry the license in future - no fine.
The 2nd was after Songkran last year by the supermarket over the railway crossing (cunning place). But once they saw we were wearing our seatbelts, we were waved through quickly (just as well, as I couldn't hold my breath much longer)!

Wow..someone's having a bad hair day...
I mostly see folks answering the OP, trying to reassure him/her not to be overly worried, and enjoy himself on his, no doubt, hard-earned vacation. As I posted, I paid twice, but have been stopped for variuos reasons over the years and haven't had to fork over, I am licenced, insured, and keep my tax sticker up to date.

No need for the BiB, we've got our own!
BTW, the going rate is 200 if you read the posts.
It was one of the "Smokey and the Bandit" movies, I think the first one!
Stopped at road blocks around Cha-Am in my truck, send me through all the time. So far so good I guess!

Wave 500 baht around???? Are you completely daft? I've been married for ten years and have two kids so not much chance of carrying around that sort of cash.
As pointed out....the going rate is 200 baht.
Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact
