Prositution (not male and female) in Thailand is only used as a source of income by a small minority. A bit difficult to evaluate really but a recent credible article in the Bangkok Post estimated that at any one time there are one million prositutes working Thailand. Some of these are foreigners. The population of Thailand is almost 70 million. From my experiences these figures are credible.

What may give the appearance, to uneducated people, that all women are prositutes is firstly that firstly that is what you see when you travel to a tourist area, (not all of them by the way), and secondly because many sad gits that come here and head straight for the areas where prositutes are found and pay money for one night see only people who are in that profession.

Sorry to draw yet another parallel with Amsterdam, but that is another place where the profession is not kept behind closed doors but is on display. However only in very small areas. The red light district of Amsterdam is strictly ring fenced into a very small area.

When people in the past have made similar comments about that city and the women I always have asked "The where exactly did you go in Amsterdam". The answer is always the same. In Thailand, which BTW in case you did not know is a much larger country ther are far more red light districts. The same applie in Thailand. There are many areas that are on the tourist trail but do not have girlie bars.

If you want to meet DECNT REPECTABLE LADIE'S then it will always help if you are DECNT & REPECTABLE yourself.

The 30 Million other women in Thailand who are not prostiutes are usually DECNT REPECTABLE LADIE'S.

If your sweeping (& wrong) generalisation were to be held true, then doesn't that mean that "the majority" of Western men you meet in Thailand are sad gits who pay for prostitutes, because they are the only women who will go with them?
Undoubtedly there are prostitutes in Thailand, as in every country (it's the World's oldest profession, not just Thailand's!) And there are those who go with prostitutes for a number of reasons. But the majority of people you meet of both genders & every nationality are not prostitutes or clients. And it's highly insulting to suggest otherwise.
Hate to think why I'm here in your skewed way of thinking...
