From Scratch....

Post by pharvey »

Hi Guys, as pe some earlier posts, I've just invested in a new property in Hua Hin and should be taking possesion in the next week or so.
Aside from the basics, the place is completely empty interior and exterior. Furniture wise I've seen a fair bit through earlier threads, so the main thing would be to sort the garden out. As I'll be looking at the whole package - patio(s), tree's, plants, outdoor lighting etc. is there one place I could go and give them the whole lot, or is this a case of shopping around at various places and suppliers?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I've never seen garden centres there like we are used to. Theres a good place for plants out South towards Prachuab, and another near the Palace for pots. But I wouldn't rush a garden anyway. Get the patios done first. Sort out the rest of the land, make a plan, put any permanent features, water, big lighting etc before you plant. Watch how the sun falls on the garden at different times of the year (probably won't vary much) and decide what you want to see and where from your patio. Do you need more shade for example? Do you want fruit trees? Where will the washing line go?
I'd certainly take time over choosing the plants and trees and studying how fast and big they will grow. Mainly because many of the plants are strange to Westerners, and any mistakes can be a pain to put right later!

We had a lady who owns a garden shop in Pranburi do all that for us. PM me if you want her name and number... she only speaks Thai.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

I used the Tree Centre north of the palace on the left (west) side.
Khun Ajarn (a former teacher) is from Chiang Mai and did a very nice job for me.
Seven large palms, two banana trees, three red palms, about 180 bougainvillea along the fence, two bougainvillea standards and about 60 Heliconia around the pool.
He helped me select, gave me some advice and delivered the stuff the following day about 3pm. The team worked until about midnight then came back and finished the next day about 1pm.
Instant garden, 52K baht all in. I had bananas this spring.
PM me for pics.

There are also several garden shops/nurseries south of town past the flyover. Just drive until you see them.
