Giant Rat

Post by PeteC »

Watch this video and be amazed. I swear I saw one of these dining on a garbage can in Bangkok. Pete

Edit: I knew it - it's the same story.

His cousins immigrated a long time ago on a slow boat to Siam. :D

Interesting that they're not afraid of humans which means apparently they haven't been hunted for food, unlike their Thai rice field cousins. Pete

Several years ago, I think it was around the time of the economic crisis, there was a place in a Northern Provence where they were farming "giant rats". The woman that owned the farm went broke and released them all into the surrounding countryside.

There were photos of them in the Bangkok Post at the time, and they looked just the same as the one shown in the video.

It's certainly a big rat, but I couldn't help noticing the title of the BBC article, "Giant rat found in 'lost volcano' ". How the hell can you lose a volcano? It's a big mountain with fire coming out of the top!
