Whatever it was it's gone, pete - did you manage to edit your post??
Nope, a Mod went in and moved the parentheses one space to the right. I knew about that technique but forgot, and too late to change myself and can't edit. Pete  8) 8 )

Sorry guys, since you lost the ability to edit, if I see a basic mistake, I just go in and correct it for you.

Brits abroad. Too much money/alcohol and very little sense.
In all honesty these scenarios are played out all over the world especially spain and greece.
Indeed it is seen every weekend on the streets of the UK.
They seem to think that they can disregard local laws and beliefs and a quick call to the British embassy and it can all be sorted out.
There is no doubt that Thai laws are tough. But the warnings are there before they go. :cuss:

Andrew Drummond (who I can't normally stand) has an excellent article on the program on his website, strangely entitled 'Foreign Tourist Police Volunteers Exposed'. Also has a good article on the Royal Marines vs Jet Ski Mafia complete with juicy pics.

Love the way Bravo have a link saying "Meet the Thai Cops" leading to farangs who are not police, just assistants without police powers. Ofcourse it's centred around Mr Miller, TV, radio and internet mogul who makes a living reporting the seedier side of Pattaya, via his work and connections as leader of the volunteer, unpaid farang tourist police assistants.
If you know of him, this series which centres around him and his team, was only ever going to go one way .......
Report on the 500 mis-behaving and don't mention the rest of the 1M Brit tourists who do behave themselves.

& that is as good an explanation as you can possibly get :thumb:

in fact, i would say some of the scenes displayed are pretty tame compared to uk city centres & european holiday destinations :|

i agree with jamie on the marines stand off, staged, spiced up & worse acting than crossroads :( :D
to be fair the documentary business is all about exaggerating the situations for the 'shock' effect & this one was no different :(
probably merited a 5/10.

 :|

Big trouble in Thailand

Post by Arcadian »

I agree that the people in trouble would find it wherever they go in the world. how many drig warnings do they need? Note to self, don`t go to Pattaya, what a sleazy dump.
Not sure about the Royal Marine/jetski stand off, I was told that visiting forces were always told to avoid such confrontations.

Pagey, when I went to BaaBaa's link it was broken down into 5 no. Diiferent segments, all around 9-10 mins each I think.

The Marines Jet ski thing is well set-up, like the camera crew just happened to be filming the boys letting off steam and the mafia just happened to let them into the workshop while they got their rifle out!! These dodgy repair scams are common by all accounts but the jet ski lot were obviously paid by crew to make an issue with the marines. No point filming joe public paying up with minimal intimidation.
