A friend is over here at the moment and by the sound of things he's a pretty experienced amateur yacht sailor.
He's interested in "getting out there" at sea and crewing or even navigating/being captain (I'm not sure of the technical terms).
Any sailing dosn't have to be competitive, it's the taking part that counts.
Are there places within reasonable striking distance of HH where he could take part?
Any information appreciated.

I must admit sailing is one thing that Hua Hin has never taken advantage of (god knows why). I would love to have done it whilst there and indeed made several enquires, but with no luck.
I did come across an old tired looking Hobie 18 at Pranburi harbour once whilst out cycling but no one there could verify as to its ownership.
Several friends of mine had also expressed an interest in sailing off Hua Hins extensive beaches but every local I spoke to just shrugged and said no idea.
I know that there is an exclusion zone around the palace but surely further up the beach is ok. After all they use jet skis, and even hold regattas so it must be ok.
I am really surprised that no one has thought of this as a business. You only need a couple of Lasers or Hobie cats and your off...literally.

Over the eight years of coming to HH, we have observed many changes: the development of multiple 1st class golf courses/resorts, major international hotels, major shopping complexes, the growth of housing estates and resort style condominiums, and the upgrade of the road from Bangkok. But the one obvious tourist attraction, the development of recreational boating, has to our amazement never shown any signs of starting. Perhaps the reason is potential opposition from the fishing industry. But it all the same it does seem strange that this has been a non starter given the potential of this industry. Perhaps Thais do not realise just how big a drawcard a recreational boating industry can be. I for one would love to have a decent boat, by decent I mean at least 25 ft, to use whilst at HH.
